Why do some Americans believe they single handedly won WW2?

without Britain an invasion of North Africa would have been on the Atlantic coast of Morrocco and Germany and Italy would have been free to rush troops there.
Ummmm, the Western Invasion force did exactly that during Operation Torch.

It seems to crop up quite a few times where posters claim everyone would be speaking German if the US hadn't won WW2.

There's nothing wrong with an interest in history. But the distorted and chauvinist way the war's history has been presented in the popular imagination is a major problem. It's long since time Americans adopted a more realistic and sensible attitude towards World War II.

The greatest error of historical fact in America's popular interpretation of the war is the idea that the United States won it pretty much single-handedly
.

So despite actual history, do you still believe America single-handedly won WW2? Why? Is it something school taught you or your parents? Genuinely would like to know.
My opinion has changed over recent years and it seems all to obvious that we should never have gotten involved, we should let it them go on for as long as it took [even feed the side losing at various times to keep it going until both sides could no longer go on] for both to be out of will to continue and then gone in and won it singlehandedly.

That's basically what we did in World War I.

I don’t know anyone who believes that.

I think the bigger problem is that there are too many students in our high schools and even institutions of higher learning don’t even know who we fought against in WWII.

No, we stayed out too long in WWII. IMHO, we should have entered the war in Europe after Dunkirk, a year and a half earlier than what we did.
The U.S. military, specifically the Army was nowhere close to being prepared to enter the war in 1940. The Army was poorly equipped and even more poorly trained. Entering the war then would have been a disaster.

Easy, easy there, slow your horses, Adolf still had contracts with US companies supplying us with military hardware, IT and oil. Till December 1941 - and the banking business continued throughout the war.

Uh, you are a retired Gunnery Sergeant and don't know that us exactly what we did? Remember Operation Torch?😥
we did not land in Morrocco we landed in Algeria in the Med and the Germans and Italians were heavily involved with the British in Libya and only resisted in Tunisia. Further because Britain was still in the war their supply and transport was heavily interdicted between Italy and North Africa.

Ummmm, check a map, dude. The Western Task Force did indeed land in Morocco.

Three prongs, both north and south of Casablanca.

Vichy French forces put up a bit of a fight at Safi, Fedala, and a port whose name escapes me.

My God do you need a history lesson!

He is just ignorant of the fact they invaded in two places I guess and that Morocco and Algeria are nowhere near each other.
Algeria is on the med coast and sits right next to Morrocco and ignoring the fact that Germany and Italy couldn't effectively respond to the invasion because of the British offensive in Libya and the interdiction of the med sea lanes just shows how stupid you are.
