Why do some Americans believe they single handedly won WW2?

It seems to crop up quite a few times where posters claim everyone would be speaking German if the US hadn't won WW2.

There's nothing wrong with an interest in history. But the distorted and chauvinist way the war's history has been presented in the popular imagination is a major problem. It's long since time Americans adopted a more realistic and sensible attitude towards World War II.

The greatest error of historical fact in America's popular interpretation of the war is the idea that the United States won it pretty much single-handedly
.

So despite actual history, do you still believe America single-handedly won WW2? Why? Is it something school taught you or your parents? Genuinely would like to know.
No one I have known believed that the US won WWII alone, however the conflict couldn't have been won without the industrial might of the US.

And yet...Robert Johnson CAUGHT an Fw190d (he explicitly mentioned an "inline engine", making it either a Dora or a Ta-152) in a climb.
Yeah, he was also one of the best fighter pilots to have ever flown an airplane, and by that stage of the war there were very few German pilots left with any real training.

And Johnson caught it with a ZOOM CLIMB. Big difference from a regular climb out.

I love oxymorons, especially when the poster hadn't a clue they just did that.

The US gave around $31 billion in military aid to the UK during WWII. Included 14,000 aircraft, 13,000 tanks, 400,000 trucks, and millions of tons of fuel and food. The US gave the Russians over $11 billion. 1000's of aircraft, tanks and tons of fuel and food.

As I stated the US didn't win the war alone, but without it's aid and industrial might it would have certainly been lost

Without Britain, WWII would have been lost.

Without Russia, WWII would have been lost.

Without France, WWII would have been lost.

Britain repaid all WWII costs.

denying the very major contributions by the USA is just as bad as whining about the US citizens claiming we won the war single handedly. The simple fact is WITHOUT the US Britian would have fallen. The Soviets would have been driven out of European Russia, and the Germans would have controlled Europe.

Without all the allies partaking, WWII would have been lost.

That has already been said. The thread is to do with the abundance of Yanks that believe it was only them that won WWII. It's been a little while since the thread was started, and if you were from the start, then your brain has lost what was said. Or there's a possibility you've not read the thread. But suffice to say, one or both of those has happen due to the content of your post.

So rather than go over old ground, does us a favour and read the thread from the OP.

not true the French ad equipped their armies till the fall of France then the British equipped the first Free French followed by the US after we joined.
The Free French that helped liberate Paris were completely US equipped. From their helmets, to their tanks.

France was lost and we still won. France did very little after they lost most of their country to the Germans.

Britain was important and needed but the reality is without US lend lease Britian would have had to surrender. The Soviets would have been pushed beyond the Urals without US and British lend lease. Without the US all would have been lost. without Britain we wouldn't have been able to invade Europe.

Technically that is not true. We had already invaded Europe from North Africa, but there was this big mountain range that would have forced us to take the long way.

without Britain an invasion of North Africa would have been on the Atlantic coast of Morrocco and Germany and Italy would have been free to rush troops there.
