Why do so many Atheist and Christians misunderstand what Hell really is ?

You need to study scripture a little more.

Luke 16: 19* ¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20* And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21* And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22* And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

I have demonstrated to you these torments are not literal pain ,the dead are conscious of nothing it is like a state of sleep.

You see, if you had a better understanding of the scriptures you would have understood my message.
I understand you are not God and therefore YOUR message is not GOD's message!!!

You are correct,i'm not God. But i can read and comprehend what i read.

One more thing you overlooked i posted a verse that says there will be a resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous well surely Abraham and lazarus were righteous but i also posted a verse that said Jesus was the first born from the dead so Abraham and Lazarus are still waiting for resurrection day.

Joh 5:29 and shall come forth, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have practiced evil to the resurrection of condemnation.

No one had that eternal hope until after the resurrection of Christ.

1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has regenerated us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

When does this resurrection happen ? the first resurrection does not occur until after the 1,000 year reign of Christ.

Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. The second death has no authority over these, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him a thousand years.

Let me help you here once again you take a metaphor as literal.

Jesus was the first born from the dead and enter heaven.

Col 1:18 And He is the Head of the body, the church, who is the Beginning, the First-born from the dead, that He may be pre-eminent in all things.

Rev 1:5 even from Jesus Christ the faithful Witness, the First-born from the dead and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,

How do i know what you quoted was a metaphor and not literal. Jesus was the first to be resurrected from the dead to eternal life andlazarus and abraham could not be in heaven because that would mean they were raised from the dead and entered heaven for eternal life.

Nope sorry that was a metaphor you might want to study the scriptures a little more.

I am curious though why are you arguing with the one that agrees with you about the condition of the dead ? Maybe because your belief requires you to see God as sadistic so you don't feel guilty in not accepting him as real and loving but just in his ways ?
Mat 8:11* And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12* But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Oh boy.

Well how many people do you think has passed away in 6,000 years ? Read revelations many are soon to die before judgment day.

Homo sapiens have existed long before the Bible, and will continue to do so after it.

Ah don't go there, i have debated evolution on here to nauseum.

Wouldn't have to if you weren't blinded by bias.

Why would one continue to hold on to a belief proven to be false? Does it make you feel better, KNOWING you are ignorant?

I could never live with myself in such massive intellectual dishonesty.

Proven to be false how ?

Having a degree in molecular biology  i guess i am ignorant.

I could never live with myself in such a massive intellectual dishonesty that is why i don't buy your theory.

I see things in science that support the bible and not your theory, mainly that kinds bring forth after their own kind can you refute that ?

I see it all the time the threat of a loving and just God is literally gonna torment people in fire for the rest of eternity. Why can't people see that it is not literal torment. The torment is being cut off from God ,death cuts us off from God.

So basically you are saying that hell is the nothingness Atheists say is what happens after death.

Yes a state of sleep.

Joh 11:1 And there was a certain sick one, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
Joh 11:2 (And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
Joh 11:3 Then his sisters sent to Him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.
Joh 11:4 When Jesus heard, He said, This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God might be glorified by it.
Joh 11:5 And Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
Joh 11:6 Therefore, when He had heard that he was sick, then indeed He remained two days in the place where He was.
Joh 11:7 Then after that He said to the disciples, Let us go into Judea again.
Joh 11:8 The disciples said to Him, Rabbi, the Jews lately have sought to stone You, and do You go there again?
Joh 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of the world.
Joh 11:10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles because there is no light in him.
Joh 11:11 He said these things; and after that He said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps. But I go so that I may awaken him out of sleep.
Joh 11:12 Then His disciples said, Lord, if he sleeps, he will get well.
Joh 11:13 But Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He had spoken of taking rest in sleep.
Joh 11:14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

If those are your beliefs than our beliefs aren't much different.

I think everyone is going to "hell."

And you think something like 95% of all the humans who have ever lived are going to hell.

Everyone who goes to Hell is everyone who dies, because it's the grave.

Rev 6:8 And I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him sitting on it was Death, and Hell followed with him. And authority was given to them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with the sword and with hunger and with death and by the beasts of the earth.

The only ones who miss Hell are the ones who survive armorgeddon and judgement day.

After people die they go to the grave,That is it until the resuirrection. People refuse to accept the truth on this issue.

Job 7:9 As the cloud falls and vanishes away, so he who goes down to the grave shall come up no more.

Job 14:12 so man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be awakened out of their sleep.
Job 14:13 Who will grant that You would hide me in the grave, that You would keep me secret, until Your wrath is past, that You would set me a fixed time and remember me?

Ecc 9:5 The living are conscious that death will come to them, but the dead are not conscious of anything, and they no longer have a reward, because there is no memory of them.

Psa 115:17 The dead do not praise Jehovah, nor do any who go down into silence.

Psa 146:4 His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

It is clear there is no life after death, hell is the grave, and everyone who dies goes there and waits for the resurrection.

I believe in heaven, but that is for the Almighty,Angels, and the saints the little flock of 144,000 mentioned in the book of revelations they will rule with christ as kings over the rest of mankind that all the ones who gain eternal other then the ones mentioned will live here on the earth. Where Gods origional plan for the earrth and mankind will take place ,the whole earth will be like the garden of eden.

Psa 25:9 The meek He will guide in judgment; and the meek He will teach His way.

We know this has not happened yet this is the world to come.

Psa 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the overflowing of peace.

Psa 76:9 when God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

Psa 147:6 Jehovah lifts up the meek; He throws the wicked down to the ground.

Psa 149:4 For Jehovah takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the meek with salvation.

Isa 11:4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and shall decide with uprightness for the meek of the earth. And He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek! For they shall inherit the earth.

You see these verses contradict many of mans religious doctrines. The truth is there for anyone who puts in the time into studying the scriptures.

Good enough  because it's not taught in the scriptures.

You should probably just get it over with and do it. Really, you should have done it in the first place.

give me your reasons why you believe a loving and just God would torment his children for eternity ?
Because he's anything but. Yahweh is a cruel, sadistic fuck that loves death and destruction. He craves it so much, that he commands his people to do it. Just look at his "holy land", and tell me if that's the work of a loving creator god.

Yahweh is a kind and benevolent father. You are confusing him with his creations. Eden was God's idea. Death and destruction are his children's idea.

God wouldn't torment his children for eternity. Those are Satan's children you are referring to. God's children live in Paradise. Choice is ours. The holy land issue stems from Abe, Sarah and Hagar. Their screw up, not God's.

And you are a pea brained fool.

Insult him all you want. He's not wrong.

Proof is in the pudding, so to speak.
He is wrong.PERIOD!!!

There is a literal hell. The Bible does say that. The scripture refering a seperation from God is refering to life here on earth. When you live a life separated from God is a termed as hell, not the physical hell of eternity. I hope I have helped you in not misrepresenting the Bible.

Explain then why the lake of fire is called the second death and not a place of torment ? And why death and helll are cast into the lake of fire ?

Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the Lake of Fire.

So are they gonna be put death being cast into the lake of fire or are they gonna be tormented.

Anyone who teaches that God will torment people forever are ignorant of the scriptures and should not speak on the subject because you offend the creator not to mention drive people away from God by making him look sadistic.
If you are saved your soul goes to heaven. If you are not it waits until the Great White Throne of Judgment where it is judged and thrown into the lake of fire. First death is when you physically die here on earth, your sour lives on. The second death is when you are thrown into the lake of fire to be tormented forever.

Hell is not "out there". It's in the mind. Every moment of rage and condemnation is a moment in hell.

Yeah there is a literal Hell but it's not what you're insinuating it is.
I am not insinuating anything. The Bible says it. You can not sugar coat it. There is eternal torment according to Gods word. Read and understand the bible before you claim things, Jesus said not to add or take away from the word. When you misunderstand the Bible that is what you are doing.

You are wrong as always.

Every moment you think your view is the only valid one is a moment of hell for you. There is no fire equal to anger, lust or greed and ignorance. We burning from physical pain and mental agony: lust, hatred, delusion, decay, death, worry, lamentation, pain(physical and mental), melancholy and grief. People can burn the entire world with some of these fires of mental discord.

That's right. Can I add something?
Death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. That is because eternal life will have arrived on Earth.

And hell is no longer necessary. Hell is the holding cell for those that chose Satan as their father, instead of the Lord. The ones that chose NOT TO BE children of God. Those people will be judged at the White Throne Judgement, and recieve THEIR father's fate.

Their names are not in the book of life, because they never accepted the gift of eternal life WITH GOD, that Jesus paid our admission to. Every soul is eternal. Where we spend eternity is up to us, not God. Don't blame him.

Hell is a much nicer place than the Lake. In the Lake, you burn. And there is no 3rd. death. You burn for eternity, along side Satan and his demons. Have you ever burned a finger? How quickly did you get your finger away from that heat source? Then imagine......
For a glimps of Hell, read Luke 16:24.
