Free citizens like to give to those they choose and not have those choices determined for them. In a free society people take offense when those who are suppose to serve the public assume that the public owes them a mansion and a livelihood for life with a full pension.

What most of us want is for the government to spend our tax dollars in a wise and responsible manner.

The same people who don't want to spend money on education and create good-paying job opportunities for our nation's young people (and future tax payers) are the same ones clamoring for those young people to be thrown in prisons. They don't understand why disadvantaged youth might find it more lucrative to sell drugs or steal crap from your garage or become radicals because they can't make a decent living or support families on minimum wage jobs. Dunderheads are thrilled to throw billions of dollars on our amorphous wars on crime, terror, and drugs when common sense dictates that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

So yes ... let's have a discussion ... what spending is wise ... what spending is unwise.

I agree. Of course, I expect talking points to be thrown out there on every issue and even though they don't make sense, it's all they've got.

When young people commit crimes, it's blamed on society, specifically tax payers, who should have paid more. The left foolishly believes that throwing money at problems is the best solution.

Not all young people commit crimes, even those who also attend the poorest schools. Hmm, why is that? Perhaps it has more to do with parents who actually raise their children instead of letting government do it for them.

You can put some students in the best schools and they will still fail because their parent(s) don't teach them anything at home so the child goes to school without having been taught respect for others. Other students can attend the worst schools and come out okay, again because they are from a functional home.

Throwing money at schools usually means shoring up teacher's unions. That does not always equate to better conditions for students.

If parents don't do their job, no amount of money thrown at schools will make up for that. But the liberals only know how to confiscate and redistribute money. It's that same "solution" that created a larger class of poor people who no longer understand that personal responsibility and making more of an effort is the way out of poverty.
