Why did the minivan get replaced by the SUV?

As a family hauler/grocery getter a minivan is damn hard to beat. Was it just more of a vanity thing?

Sliding doors made it so much easier for kids to bail, plenty of storage, nice on long trips.

Hell we still have an old KIA Sedona the wife uses.

Minivan was more practical than an SUV
Especially with small children

I remember on a long trip if the kids were fussing that my wife could go to the back and quiet them down or give them something to play with.

Its Griswald's fault....

I had 1 minivan while the kids were little. I hate minivans, but for kids they're great and I was willing to make the trade off for a few years. For me it's the sliding doors.

They were not cool, period. Since I'm not cool, I've driven one for years and still have an old Kia Sedona I use for hauling stuff. Probably won't ever buy another but they were great on long family trips.

We had a minivan until the kids were older. Boxy and not cool but very practical for a young family.

The wife had a Sedona. You could haul an amazing amount of stuff in it, including a marumba.

No clue what a marumba is but we'd routinely move a kid from one apartment to another, often in a single trip. Also, I could get 4 golfers, 4 golf bags, and 4 golf hand carts in it. My friends have SUVs and none of them can match that.
