Why are so many WRs whack jobs?

Most Wideouts are marginal Athletes, the best are snatched up for the Defensive Secondary ( 2nd most skilled player after Starting QB on almost any football team is the Right Cornerback ) the Secondary coaches get the cream of the crop but usually they have marginal hands as Receivers .

Maybe there's something about the nature of the position that attracts egos and thrill seekers.

Andre Rison’s story ( Picked Crazy to stick his dick into in Lisa Left Eye Lopez and she burned down a 10 + Million $ Mansion that he had recently paid off ) but stayed successful as a veteran is far different from Antonio Brown ( Brother was a known Knucklehead from Junior High Football on But he had decent speed and uncanny Hands though small )

There was this Great San Diego HOF Receiver back in the 60s / 70s ? That was known as “Bambi” If I remember correctly he had major “ Issues” in life but can’t remember back story as I was a Lifelong Raiders fan .

WR's make the 2nd most in the NFL right behind QB. CB is 6th. It makes no sense that the best athletes would be choosing the lesser paying positions to play. CB's are typically shorter, and most importantly cant catch. That's why they play CB and not WR. If they could catch a ball they wouldn't be on the defensive side of the ball. Not in today's league.

WR’s are the divas of the NFL. They rarely get their hands dirty, they seek glorification and too often sulk if they don’t get the ball thrown to them. I think it’s just a culture that developed, and one that fame-craving millionaires enjoy perpetuating.

Meanwhile, you can fill any culture with massive narcissism (see modern women on onlyfans, or just anyone who relies on social media validation ) and you’ll get very odd, wacky people
Most of today's wide receivers couldn't play even in the 80's when defenders could actually play defense and bump receivers down field. Now it seems you can't even breathe on one without getting a flag.

Yeah how could guys who are bigger faster and stronger hope to compete in a more physical league against opponents who are smaller slower and weaker than their modern day opponents….

A top Wide Receiver is covered by a Cornerback

They could play, they'd just have to adapt.

As much as it is to glorify gritty 70's and 80's defense... fear of a massive cheap shot shouldn't prevent receivers from running routes. CB's and Safety's in the 80's were cheap shot artists who often tried to concuss and injure defenseless receivers. I see no honor in that. If you're really a good CB or safety, shut them down using skill and defending them.

On most teams ( 53 man roster ) there are 5-6 Wideouts and 6-9 Defensive backs ( CB / Safety )

Okay... and?

On any given offensive play there are usually 2, sometimes 3 WR's.

On any given defensive play, there are usually 4+ defensive backs.

I don't get what you're trying to say here.
