Likely because those who decide the benefits also overeat, are overweight or obese, and not healthy physically or mentally.

Government officials and workers face unique challenges due to their critical work, which can take a heavy toll on their mental health3. However, there are initiatives to improve organizational health and provide good-quality health services for them124. A study evaluated occupational stress and cardiovascular risk factors in high-level government officials5.

So high? I actually looked into that once, about 20 years ago because a friend was dealing with it, and at that time for many people, SNAP benefits only covered about a third the cost of food based on what a person needed for their age and weight to eat a normal, healthy, reasonable diet to meet the government's own recommendations. So, unless something has radically changed, my guess is no one if getting rich off of SNAP.

Maybe we need to put all government workers and SNAP beneficiaries on a diet of cardboard and pond water.

Teach the young about healthy eating, metabolism deterrents and financial education.

It's beneficial to some to keep people stupid and they do a good job of it in Canada also. An even better job as it pertains to history, war and civil liberties. At least you have a Constitution.

Are you insane?

Well, I am different.

Here's an idea: people are using too much wood damaging our forests and ecosystem. I propose that when a person goes over 40 running board feet of lumber a year, they should be made to pay triple the price on any further purchases to offset the damage they're doing to the planet.

How you liking them apples? 🍎

Mature trees sequester less carbon and need to make room for younger trees. That said timber harvesting could be a little more selective and sustainable, as is done by the Menomonee's in northeast Wisconsin.

Wooden structures could be built stronger, so they don't have to be rebuilt after a storm. That would save some wood.

Are you on SNAP? You buy apples with that you know.

If I were on SNAP, I'd have steak (or Lobster) every night.

No you wouldn't. You'd go through your SNAP benefit in likely a few days then having nothing to eat the other 20-25 days of the month.

And if someone showed up at my register wanting to pay for their Wagyu steaks, porterhouses, filet mignons, and fresh north Atlantic lobsters with a SNAP card, I'd refuse the purchase and report him.

That is a far more offensive use of SNAP than buying a bottle of cola.

If someone is looking to eat steak and lobster on a SNAP card, chances are good they really don't need a SNAP card.

I doubt that unless you bought one of each and cut them into 30 pieces for the month.

But I will say that it is possible to splurge on occasion for such luxuries.....as long as you were a thrifty shopper and eating much cheaper items the rest of the month

Let's say your child is two years old, and off of expensive formula and onto regular milk and home pureed vegetables. You now have an extra $200/month of SNAP money to buy those steaks.

If I received the maximum SNAP benefit in my state, which is $292/month, I would have $200 to buy steak or lobster as my present food budget is about $90/month.

I buy steak and cut it into about 4 or 5 ounce servings. That's enough for me. For that extra $200/month I can eat steak every day. At $20/pound $200 will buy 30 5 oz. steaks.

Do you live in a tent, then? Or do you have a really nice freeway underpass and a coveted mattress? You do qualify for SNAP, but remember that your free Medicare is gone unless you work 80 hours a month. I understand that could be any kind of work, too. What skills do you possess?
