I was talking to a guy from India and they were surprised bookstores in America like "Barnes & Noble" had an entire section dedicated to books with swords, dragons, spaceships, and aliens whereas the bookstore in their own town only had educational stuff.

Why is fantasy and space fiction more popular in the West? Why is it easier for Americans to imagine humanity going up into space?

Maybe it's because folks in other parts of the world are so wrapped up in just basic survival from day to day. They don't have the luxury of taking time off to just dream.
