Why are Democrats and their supporters losing their minds over govt RIFS????

LOL so when Trump takes action he's a TYRANT and he takes a softer stance he's a CHICKEN. That is pure TDS.
Only if those actions are reversible.

What American hasn't been through a RIF in their career? I worked for 5 different companies of varying sizes during my career and 4 of them had RIFS while I was there. WTH?? This is Standard Operating Procedure. But for some reason, the Left thinks the government is some sacred cow that only be allowed to expand without ever letting anyone go. That is what has created the monster that is our government payroll and pension nightmare. RIFs are decades overdue and it should NOT be one and done. Cut, wait awhile and then cut again.
If it were done properly, with a proper plan, rather than slash and burn for the sake of some pyromaniac to get a kick, then people might understand.

Instead of analyzing the function of a position, before cutting it. DOGE just did a slash and burn by the percentage Trump wanted something cut by.

DOGE wanted to cut air traffic controllers at the FAA by 10%.
But the Sec of Transportation refused to let them.

What does "proper" mean? Have you ever worked for a company and not the government? Companies don't agonize over their RIF plans, they decide how many need to be let go and start cutting from the bottom rated employees and working their way up.

The difference might be, depending on how good or bad the company is, that they understand their own company and they let people go based on that understanding of their company.

Others just do a Trump or a Musk and slash and burn and hope it all works out.

So based on that I'm guessing you never worked for a private company. They ALL do RIFs from the biggest conglomerate to the smallest Mom and Pop shop. They ALL do RIFs.

Not very good at guessing, are you?

Again, I said the issue was HOW they were doing it.

The government should be hiring the brightest and best with the best work ethic they can find to fill all government jobs. Immodestly perhaps, many of my former employers hired two or more people to replace me when I left because I prided myself on figuring out how to work fast, efficiently, effectively and do the necessary work very well in less time so I could take on additional work. Making myself more valuable to my employer almost always netted me higher pay and sometimes better opportunities and benefits.

I suspect people like that are legion. And we need them as public servants at all levels of government.

People actually doing their jobs, doing them effective, efficiently, competently will do ten times the work that those who work only as hard or much as they have to to keep from being fired. If you have a work force of the latter, RIFS are the only way to go.

But no business can operation effectively and efficiently for long if you are paying more people than you need to get the job(s) done. Some say you can't run the government like a business. I say that ONLY government run like a good business will be efficient effective, competent.

A friend of mine just retired (normally) from the Mt. Weather, Virginia (DHS) facility.

He was offered a job at the Smithsonian's research center in my AO (lateral transfer) before he retired but they froze the job so he went ahead and retired about a month ago.

Last week they called him and brought him on a "part time" basis at the research facility. He makes more now than he did at Mt. Weather and can see the place from his house.....He's one happy camper. :)
If he has a house, why is he camping? :abgg2q.jpg:

Great story BTW!

So HOW did they do it at the companies you worked for? The 4 RIFs I went through (no I was never RIFFED) were abrupt and quite heartless. The first one I remember they called random people into the cafeteria on a Monday Morning. The speaker announced "If you were asked to be here, you have been RIFFED. Please deposit your badges in the boxes outside the door and wait for a security person to escort you to your desk. You will have 30 minutes to gather what you want to keep. Good luck to you".

Nothing wrong with a RIF
Good way to downsize your workforce.

But Trump needs to actually examine the agency to decide what positions are essential and what the impact of the RIF will be.

Arbitrarily cutting 10 percent is insanity
If you can't lose 10% and still function, you didn't work well in the first place and need replacing.

Good post. I'm sure that in the government RIFs just like in the one's of our experience, they cut the lowest rated, least productive employees first. Our government should be viewed as a business that provides services to American citizens. Instead it was always treated as a Sacred Cow that has grown fat beyond belief. And if that wasn't bad enough, fraud and corruption is rampant.

Oh, I've seen pretty heartless things too. However I've had good bosses and I've had bad bosses, and the bad bosses were the ones who did things badly, who ended up messing the companies up. The good ones were the ones who'd have more success.

You actually defeated your whole argument.
You said: and start cutting from the bottom rated employees and working their way up.

That means they already evaluated their employees on an individual case by case basis. Giving each one an in job performance rating.

Another gubmint employee who doesn't understand how RIFs work.
