What American hasn't been through a RIF in their career? I worked for 5 different companies of varying sizes during my career and 4 of them had RIFS while I was there. WTH?? This is Standard Operating Procedure. But for some reason, the Left thinks the government is some sacred cow that only be allowed to expand without ever letting anyone go. That is what has created the monster that is our government payroll and pension nightmare. RIFs are decades overdue and it should NOT be one and done. Cut, wait awhile and then cut again.

Government is the religion of the left, and they view this as an attack on their faith.

Employee Reductions are part of life... In AZ and CA there are state and county layoffs and buyouts for early retirement going on right now and both states are run by Democrats... In many cases some employees will be asked to come back on a part time basis...

A friend of mine just retired (normally) from the Mt. Weather, Virginia (DHS) facility.

He was offered a job at the Smithsonian's research center in my AO (lateral transfer) before he retired but they froze the job so he went ahead and retired about a month ago.

Last week they called him and brought him on a "part time" basis at the research facility. He makes more now than he did at Mt. Weather and can see the place from his house.....He's one happy camper. :)

The government should be RIF'd whenever the US population goes DOWN.

According to recent news reports, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is ending its practice of sending staff to go door-to-door in disaster zones to assist survivors,

A memo dated May 2, 2025, from a senior official states that FEMA will discontinue unaccompanied door-to-door canvassing to prioritize survivor outreach and assistance registration at fixed facilities and in collaboration with state, local, tribal, and territorial partners and nonprofit organizations. This shift aims to improve access to those in need and increase cooperation with local partners,

The guy in charge of making sure they heeded the warning, got DOGE'd out.
In the last nine years, federal funding for a system has been denied to the county as it contends with a tax base hostile to government overspending."
