If there is one statistic that best captures the transformation of the American economy over the past half century, it may be this: Of Americans born in 1940, 92 percent went on to earn more than their parents; among those born in 1980, just 50 percent did. Over the course of a few decades, the chances of achieving the American dream went from a near-guarantee to a coin flip.
What happened?
Why America Abandoned the Greatest Economy in History
Was the country’s turn toward free-market fundamentalism driven by race, class, or something else? Yes.www.theatlantic.com
The transfer of wealth from the working class, to the morbidly rich. That's what happened. We now just need to teach this to the Gen Z and later generations, and how to take that wealth back from the "Entitled Worthless", of whom it does not belong.
That's a fact but these right-wing Republicans can't accept it because they're either of the wealthy ruling class, which doesn't give a rats about the American working class or they're working-class people who are mostly Bible-believing Christians who have been brainwashed by both capitalist Cold War propaganda and the Protestant church-pulpit. American Evangelical Conservatives, with their Protestant Christian work ethic along with a significant dose of self-loathing and sheepish conformism to authority, make perfect wage slaves for capitalists. Workers who see their employment to their capitalist masters as part of their devotion to their deity.
These working-class Evangelicals lack class consciousness and often (not always, but often) see themselves as wealthy and powerful people who just happen to be going through some hard times but will eventually manifest their true nature and identity in society as rich capitalist masters themselves, who rely on the labor of others to grow their wealth and live in opulence. Many of these so-called "disciples of Jesus" (Right-Wing Conservative, Fox News Republicans), pursue, if not hanker after the pleasures and trinkets of this world, which Jesus and His apostles rejected and taught others to do the same:
Act 2:43-47 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. (44) And all that believed were together, and had all things common; (45) And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (46) And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, (47) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Act 4:32-37 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. (33) And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. (34) Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, (35) And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. (36) And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, (37) Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
Mar 10:25-31 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. (26) And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? (27) And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. (28) Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. (29) And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, (30) But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. (31) But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
Luk 6:24-25 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. (25) Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
Jas 1:9-12 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: (10) But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. (11) For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. (12) Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Jas 2:5-6 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? (6) But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
Jas_5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
The Christian NT doesn't have much nice to say about the rich and yet all of these Evangelical, right-wing Conservatives often lust after worldly riches and power. They hold the poor in contempt, presumptuously asserting that the poor are in that condition due to being lazy or having some other character flaw. They ignore the fact that people are poor for many different reasons, not necessarily because they're lazy. The hardest working people are poor. They often do nothing more than work. They're life is work, work, work, work, work..two jobs.
The "Christian" worshipers of mammon, argue that because Jesus said that it's not impossible for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God, it's easy or likely to happen. They take that one statement of Jesus saying that nothing is impossible with God, and they incorrectly, without warrant nullify the first statement which says it's extremely difficult for the rich of this fallen world to inherit eternal life. Why would someone who truly believes in God and His Son Jesus Christ, pursue becoming part of a socioeconomic group (i.e. class of people) that will hardly ever enter the Kingdom of God? Does that make any sense? No. These "Christians" don't really believe in God.
Mat 25:41-46 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (42) For I was hungry, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: (43) I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. (44) Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? (45) Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. (46) And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
1Jn 3:16-18 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. (17) But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? (18) My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
These fake disciples of Jesus Christ, practically always vote for government policies that serve the rich at the expense of the poor and working-class people. They undermine the public good making sure all of the wealth goes to the top 1/10th of 1% of the American population. They abhor government, similar to how Satan hates it. These Sean Hannity, Fox News "Christians" are possessed by the spirit of their father, Satan, who was a rebel from the beginning. A democratic, constitutional government like we have here in America is the power of the people.
The wealthy elites hate the government because it forces them to pay taxes and regulates their businesses, including forcing them to respect the rights of their workers. These rich folks do everything possible to get as much control over the reins of government power to advance their vested interests, often at the expense of the American public. The American working class always ends up bearing the cost of this:

Who's really on the government's "tit"? It's not the working class. Whenever these "Christian" Conservatives hear of the government providing working-class people with services or pass a bill through Congress to allocate funds towards developing infrastructure that will serve the public good, they start complaining and accusing those who are for the government making that investment, of being lazy bums who need the "nanny state" to support them. It's asinine for "Christians" to adopt this anti-government/anti-poor/anti-working class attitude because it's un-Biblical and just plain stupid.
The government is simply a social apparatus created by the people to manage their large-scale projects and socioeconomic, civil affairs. It's a management tool, that isn't inherently evil or good, it's whatever the people struggle for it to be. It's a struggle, a fight to keep it in line, serving the public good. We have to remain vigilant or else the rich powerful elites, and their "Christian" fans/groupies/slaves, will have the government serving corporate interests, big money, rather than the working class, the general public.
The greatest threat to our country and its economy are the rich who care about nothing more than their "bottom line" (i.e. profits) and their "Christian" conservative admirers who lust after worldly riches.
