You obviously can’t read. I said, they PAID for themselves and did for decades. The surplus was replaced by Treasury securities which are now part of the yearly DEFICIT. It is monies that SS EARNED for decades that was placed in the general fund. It’s a pay / go system ! It’s not an investment account.

The surplus has been there because illegals are quietly paying billions a year into the fund. Deportation would put the fund even deeper in debt. The cap is $160 k raising the cap like has been done before, and / or having comprehensive immigration reforms to include more immigrant contributions easily takes care of any contrived fear mongering.

Sure, but if you cut funding for red states that would disproportionally affect Democrats in those states. The dirty little secret about red states taking more money from the feds than blue states is that they have to heavily subsidize blue voters and blue counties. Average salaries for all voters aren’t as high as in many blue states. We don’t pay a garbage collector 75k/yr like they do in some big cities. We don’t need to as the cost of living is lower. This means less federal tax money to subsidize the Democratic voters, who tend to make far less money in my state than Republican voters. Remove the blue voters from my red state and we would be far into the black.
