When trying to support the stringent closing of the economy, certain facts belie that plan, and seem to suggest that it is more about removing Trump’s ability to run on a burgeoning economy.
“The coronavirus targets the elderly frail with preexisting morbidities, as had been apparent from the highly detailed Italian data. As of April 12 in New York City, 97 percent of all coronavirus deaths had serious preexisting conditions, where the presence or absence of underlying conditions was known.
The death rate for coronavirus among individuals 75 and older is 63 times higher than the death rate for New Yorkers aged 18 to 44.
More than three-quarters of all deaths have been among people over 65 in New York City, a proportion replicated or exceeded elsewhere. This concentration of cases and deaths among the already sick elderly means that sweeping stay-at-home orders and business shutdowns are overly broad.” Keeping the coronavirus death toll in perspective
“…people with illnesses including heart disease, diabetes and cancer had a 79 per cent greater chance of being admitted to intensive care, being put on a ventilator, or dying from coronavirus.
Underlying health conditions that put you at risk of coronavirus
Some of the chronic conditions said to heighten the risk among patients are:
Asthma
Cancer
Cystic Fibrosis
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - emphysema or bronchitis
Primary Immumodeficiency (PID)
Chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
Chronic kidney disease
Chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
Chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy
Diabetes
Problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
HIV and AIDS
Being seriously overweight (a BMI of 40 or above)
Coronavirus: The underlying health conditions that put you at risk of deadly bug
When judging the despotic commands being placed on the entire nation, in comparison to the above.......one should view the 'shut-down' through this prism:
Antonio Gramsci, Italian Marxist theoretician and founding member and one-time leader of the Communist Party of Italy. Gramsci’s motto is that of liberals today: “that all life is "political."
