Who Made Life In The U.S. Unaffordable?

lol. Go with that tag line. "Vote for the GOP. We wont lower prices but we will tell you from our mansions that you are living like a king in your expensive apartment so stop buying shit.
Just buy what you can afford. You can't borrow your way to prosperity.

Very true…..just make your choice between rent, power bill, doctors bills, food, education

Not when you used to have the ability to fend for yourself but now struggle paying for food, energy, transportation, healthcare……
I believe there is "something in the water" that is affecting the thinking of Americans. This doesn't bode well at all. :(

Easy choices.

Rent. Take on a roommate or boarder.
Power bill. Conserve energy where possible. Be creative.
Doctor bills. Take better care of your health.
Food. You can eat well cheaply if you want to. Stay out of the junk food aisle when shopping.
Education. Don't pay for your kid's college. However, if you have student loan debt, not much can be done. :(

Cutting back on the luxuries would help a great deal as well.

This has been a true team effort, and the setup for it goes back decades.

Clinton's repeal of Glass Steagall, Greenspan's refusal to regulate the derivatives unleashed by that repeal that damn near killed us, QE/easy money all day in response to all that, private equity buying up FAR too many residential properties, the destruction of the middle class/wealth disparity, a horrific housing supply problem, the unwillingness of our "leaders" (ha ha ha) to work together like adults to create smart reform, on and on and on.

Partisan finger-pointing on this would be ridiculous, which is par for the course in politics.
WTF?!?!?! I actually agree with you. Although you completely forgot to express your Trump Hate in this post.

illegals drove up rents and when they are deported they drop
Don't forget the effect of increasing property taxes. Municipalities need to raise revenues in order to deal with the problems they've created.

Illegals took all the units. Its supply and demand. When they were deported the rents dropped Local taxes are deductible for federal taxes.

illegals are struggling to get by

Corporations buying up real estate and inflating rental prices is what drives up prices

There is an interesting phenomenon at play here. Millions and millions of millennials and such are doing fine. They get a good education with the help of their parents, they get a decent job out of College and remain in the family home saving money until they meet the Person of the Dreams, who has done pretty much the same thing. They get engaged and married, and have enough for a down payment on a house shortly thereafter. A few years later, after they have paid off all their debts (except for the mortgage loan, of course), they have a couple of kids.

It happens all the time, but you would never know it reading forums like this and FaceBook. I can name a dozen couples in my own family that have reached their mid-30's doing exactly what I describe above, and are doing fine. I did it myself 50-couple years ago, aided by the GI Bill in all its manifestations.

Don't tell me it can't be done, or "Everybody is suffering." It just ain't true.

The biggest problem today is "it can't be done" when buying the latest phones, all the movie channels, driving a BMW, going out to eat 4-5 times a week and buying designer clothing.

Democrats think thats good. They think Bidens 9.1% inflation was OK since they never complained about it. They loved his high gas costs increased rents and decreased wages. Their excuses were so creative. But the rely loved the mortgage recession caused by Carter that exploded when Bush was president. That was the Communist Reinvestment Act. Another democrat disaster.
Biden and Carter were the 2 worst presidents in our lifetime. Obama a solid third place. Biden first place
They are given far more than they earn and pay for thus inflation does not mean much
Whatever hampers the productive they are All In on.

Prove me wrong Skippy
Rental prices are based on what the market can bear, regardless of who owns the property. A corporation or an individual purchasing property and hiking the rent by 20-30% above market rates will end up with empty units.

Rental prices are based on supply and demand.
As corporations and speculators buy up available property, the supply dwindles as demand remains constant.
By the way, illegal immigrants have nothing to do with rising prices

If you itemize.
