In a sense, yes she was the official leader of the party by definition of chairperson. No, she did not get to tell obama what to do, so your point is well taken. That being said, since the current president is not a democrat, then the role of party leader falls to someone else. As such, that does give the DNC chair more of an opportunity to perform a leadership role for the party. It would not have been a bad idea to at least include the name of the DNC chair in your poll.
