Who do you want to be the Republican nominee for President in 2024?

  • Donald Trump

  • Ron DeSantis

Results are only viewable after voting.
Hey there! Henry Kissinger is 99 and just came out with a new 600 page book on International Relations and is still regular consulting world leaders. I think it's a mistake to judge who you vote for by age.

I think this is going to come down to whether or not Republicans believe Trump went too far on January 6, 2021 or not. Do they believe he tried to overthrow the U.S. government and essentially become a dictator? Will the Department of Justice find evidence to convict Trump of a crime?

While it should not be a factor, we do live in a rather ignorant and ageist society when it comes to age. People still live by the model developed in the 1930s that you retire and sit in a rocking chair at age 65. There are many people that have career or financial interest in people still believing that. More people are waking up to the fact that the idea that you need or have to retire at 65 is ancient, outdated thinking.

But the fact is ageism is still alive and well, and is probably a more popular form and accepted form of discrimination than racism, sexism, or other things. The fact that DeSantis is in his 40s compared to Trump who will pass 80 during the next Presidential Term is obviously going to have an impact. Plus DeSantis would love to be the nominee and go up against Biden who is even older. But Trump has a huge ego and loves campaigning. If he goes in strong, will DeSantis really challenge him for it. It might be better for DeSantis to wait and let Trump do his thing, and then run in the next election cycle. By then DeSantis will have a better understanding of how toxic or non-toxic Trump is and how to handle questions about Trump, his supporters, etc.

Trump is getting weaker as a candidate, and the polling data here seems to indicate that as well.
We disagree. Surprise! I am apparently an "ageist". Just because a few old folks have their faculties, many more have much diminished brainpower, look at Biden, Fau-Chi, RBG, etc..
We want the most capable making decisions.

There is a push for a "Convention of States" to pass a few needed Constitutional Amendments. The problem will be to get 38 states to agree on any of the proposed Amendments. Here are a few I'd like to see made part of the Constitution.
  • Election Reform, only US citizens 18 and older may vote, ID required, mail-in signature matching, mail-in by excuse only, etc
  • Ensure that apportionment of Representatives be set by counting only citizens in the census
  • Allow the President a "line item veto"
  • Clarify the 14th Amendment that only US citizens can make a US citizen, otherwise we get "anchor babies from Russia, China, and Mexico.
  • The US Supreme court shall have not more than 9 justices.
  • Immigration reform, no longer admit for fleeing oppression, only merit based immigration as approved.
  • To set mandatory retirement ages for House/Senate/Supreme Court Justices (70).
  • Balanced Budget required, w/o using SS funds, unless in time of declared war
  • Social Security and Medicare must be made whole, i.e. "fixed" and only those who contributed can get benefits
  • Set term limits in the House and Senate (4-House & 2-Senate)

The only candidate I can support doesn't have a political party...

Not only ageist, but also ignorant of what people in older age in 2022 can actually do and their deep value to society and elected office. We want people with experience and knowledge in leadership positions. We don't want anyone being blocked by arbitrary unscientific and undemocratic laws.

BIDEN is far more capable than most Republicans currently in the Senate and the House and I say that as a registered Republican.

01. Are Elections are just fine, no reform needed. Evidence from November 2020 based on what happened in the courts, evidence showed very little examples of fraud.
02. Keep the apportionment of Representatives the way it has always been.
03. I'd say yes to the line item veto.
04. No clarification to the 14th amendment needed.
05. Let the number Supreme court Justices fluctuate if the Senate decides. That is the way it has always been.
06. We need to find ways to increase immigration and order to maintain an adequate population for economic growth. We don't want to end up like Japan. Labor shortages are killing the economy. We also don't want immigration policy being set by racist who are afraid of the "browning of America" and people who speak a different language. Its people like that, that opposed by Irish Catholic Ancestors who came to this country in the 19th century.
07. No mandatory retirement ages. Such a policy is unscientific and undemocratic. Your idea would have prevented Ronald Reagan from being President, one of the greatest Presidents in American history. With age comes knowledge and experience. Setting age limits based on the science of the 1930s is crazy. Its 2022, and more people every day continue to live longer and healthier lives. That is the trend. The older population is a valuable resource that needs to be used. Blocking them will only hurt the country and is unscientific and undemocratic.
8. Balanced Budget is a goal, but we should never sacrifice the needs of the country to that one specific goal.
9. There are millions of people who cannot contribute to social security and Medicare for a variety of reasons. To simply dump them out on the street, force them into extreme poverty, will only end up causing more problems.
10. Arbitrary terms limits is anti-democratic and forces out talented people that the American people as a whole want to continue in office. In fact, I would lift the two term limit on the President of the United States. Allow the people to decide. That two term limit would have prevented Franklin Roosevelt from being President during World War II, one of the greatest American Presidents ever.

What you say is true, but Americans overwhelmingly want a younger choice. They seen what happened to Reagan, and now see what is happening to Biden. In Americas hindsight, if something would have happened to Reagan, another President would have taken over that was elected later. But that is HINDSIGHT!

Republicans are split almost down the middle on if something happens to Biden where he can not execute his office. Harris scares the heck out of everyone, and is far more ridiculed, then even Dan Quayle. She will be at the very least a reason that 30% of people vote AGAINST Biden, should he actually choose to run again. And, you tell all of us how he/Democrats remove a woman of color from the ticket in these woke times without backlash. And after that, you tell us since she is currently the VP, if Biden says he will not run, how they cast the sitting VP to the side as the leading candidate for office of the President.

From a political point of view, yes........the GOP is in a trickbag with DJT for 2024 if they can't defeat his followers in the primary. But I contend that the Democrat trickbag is as big, with the people they have to either push aside, or downright push against, to get a viable candidate to run.

If the GOP can stop Trump from winning the nomination, with the backlash of having to put Biden and Harris back up, or pushing Harris aside if Biden decides not to run, I do not see how the Democrats can win with the backlash from the wokesters if they pass over Harris, or from the American people if Harris is again the VP candidate, and Biden 2 years older, while Harris waits in the wings like Truman did.

Most of your post is logical and debatable, except your perspective about Joe Biden. Joe is NOT capable, he can't even have a real press conference. All he does is read a teleprompter very poorly. Here are the reasons "always wrong" Joe Biden is a terrible president:
Everything Xiden, aka “poopy pants” touches turns to crap, its that simple, Obama was right "never underestimate Joe's ability to F___ things up."
How about showering with his daughter Ashley? How bad is that?
The Brits hold him in CONTEMPT for abandoning AFG
The French pulled their ambassador for abandoning AFG
He pissed off the Canadians by killing the KeystoneXL pipeline, that’s 500,000 bbls a day he killed.
Xiden sold us out by approving the Nord Stream 2 pipeline giving Putin cash to modernize his military and invade Ukraine, and his “war on energy” keeps fuel costs high. That's why Xiden is "Putin's Whore".
Hope he enjoys the $3,500,000 the Moscow Mayor's wife sent Hunter
Hope he enjoys the $1,500,000,000 that China gave Hunter to "invest"
Open borders is a catastrophe. Trump had it SOLVED. Now its infected migrants & fentanyl sent all over
Runaway inflation would get worse if the dems pass their "BBB" bill. That will be Solyndra on steroids, not to mention the $200,000,000 for Nancy’s park in San Francisco.
Xiden is ruining the US energy sector with his stupid EOs, he wants Russia to pump more oil?
Xiden is so dumb he can't even do fake press conferences to answer "ice cream" questions.
Xiden is a gaffe machine, his brain is defective, and he has the nuclear football?
Xiden surrendered AFG leaving Americans, $billions of equipment, and interpreters to be slaughtered
Xiden’s DOJ sent the FBI after parents (aka domestic terrorists) who dare to ask questions at school board meetings.
China just passed the US out with their new hypersonic missile.
Stupid Joe wants to pay MIGRANTS $450,000 for breaking US immigration LAWS?
After promising we would have more than enough Covid testing kits, Joe LIED and FAILED.
Xiden killed Israel’s EastMed gas pipeline to sell gas to the EU, Putin’s whore strikes again.
Xiden killed the development of ANWR, but he’s begging Putin to pump more oil???
Xiden’s “war on energy” is pushing gas and diesel to unaffordable levels, causing “runaway inflation”.
Xiden is letting RUSSIA negotiate the new IRAN agreement?
Xiden is giving baby formula to migrants when American babies can’t get formula????
Xiden sold 1m bbls of SPR emergency oil to Sinopec, Hunter’s Chinese oil company, that’s treason.
I could go on and on, but you see Trump was at least 1,000,000x better as president than stupid Joe

01 Evidence that there was election fraud in 2020? How about the total vote count? Mail-ins make it way too easy to cheat, that's why it not allowed in most EU countries.
1658599214313.png

02. Why not count only US citizens? Counting illegals and/or migrants makes no sense.
03. We agree on the line-item Veto!!
04. The 14th amendment allow "anchor babies" from all over the world. Russia, China, anywhere. Very bad.
05. Even RBG said the USSC should stay at 9. If you want more change add an age limit.
06. So you're a "Great Replacement" proponent? This "open border" policy will end badly. Like Joe's stupid "war on energy" too much change without adequate planning. Trump's economy was better than Biden's. I still prefer "merit based immigration" to fill our needs.
07. Reagan was made to look good by having a great cast of characters around him, many Bechtel VPs, Nancy had to finish his sentences near the end. Too old is too old.
08. ok, no balanced budget, the $30T Debt is a "time bomb" that will crowd out all future spending.
09. SS is an earned benefit, not welfare. Giving benefits to the undeserving is unfair and stupid. SS will be bankrupt in 2034 and you support giving benefits away???? The homeless is another problem entirely. Society needs to do better at forcing people to work for benefits.
10. The Founders wanted the House and Senate to be filled with working people, not career politicians. There are always better people waiting to be elected, instead of the people living in the "DC or Beltway Bubble".

To keep on the thread topic, my GOP candidates over Trump are:
1. Ron Desantis (Navy Seal Team One, great governor)
2. Nikki Haley (1st woman president?)
3. Mike Pompeo (best resume' ever, 1st in his class at West Point, CIA, State)
4. Jim Jordan (great talker, very smart)
5. Ted Cruz (very smart and experienced)
6. Dan Crenshaw (Navy Seal, earned the office)

If Trump is the nominee, then I think Biden can win in 2024. But if DeSantis is the nominee, then I think Biden will struggle in 2024 and probably lose in a narrow election. Sadly that is just the way ageism works. When your nearly 82 going up against someone that is 46, in a narrow race, that is what happens.

Biden is far from being the perfect candidate, but he his far better than Trump or any Trump followers. I find Trump's brand of Republicanism totally unacceptable. It goes against U.S. Foreign Policy and Defense Policy of the last 75 years! In my opinion, you can't be President of the United States when you're ANTI-NATO and pro-Russia.

I'm a Bush/McCain Republican. Your top 5 candidates have all soiled themselves with their Trump like behavior over the past 6 years, which to me is unacceptable. There are only few Republicans that are in elected office that I would vote for, like Mitt Romney, Adam Kizinger, and Liz Cheney. Biden and Hillary Clinton are all the Democrats really have. Most of the rest of the Democrats out there I have serious reservations about, although when push comes to shove, I would vote for them over Trump.

WOW! Trump is getting crushed in this poll now!
Are you happy or upset because the GOP candidate will be tougher to defeat in 2024?
The 2024 odds look bad for democrats, Joe Biden is the best they can put up, followed by Kamala Harris???

You use a lot of terms there which we probably disagree on as to their meaning. I know they are democrat "talking points", but lets see how true they are. You disagree with Trump's foreign and defense policies, so lets review:
Biden is held in Contempt by Britain. France pulled their ambassador for Biden's disastrous withdrawal in AFG. Biden pissed off Canada by killing the KeystoneXL pipeline. Biden killed Israel's EastMed pipeline. Biden then approved the Nord Stream-2 pipeline for Putin!!
ALL STUPIDLY WRONG.

Trump's foreign policies include:
1. Trump made NATO stronger, so says NATO Secretary Stoltenberg
2. Trump kicked ass in Syria killing ISIS after Obama let them grow and grow.
1658620118761.png

3. Trump took on China's unfair trade policies.

4. Here are other less significant Trump policy wins

5. I don't like Trump personally, but I do like his policies. Biden's policies are disasters. My top five candidates haven't soiled anything, they are head and shoulders above any of the POS candidates the democrats have.

I'm just really surprised because I thought Trump's hold on the Republican party was stronger. Still, if the Republican field is crowded in 2024, that may allow Trump to rise above the pack like he did in 2016. BIDEN can beat Trump again, but DeSantis I'm not so sure.

I should probably do a poll with a large field of candidates instead of just Trump against one person and see how that turns out.

Let it ply out for another year. Who do you want on the democrat side?
BIDEN is the only one that is really fit, although I'd prefer Hillary Clinton, but she won't run again. The rest of the possible candidates have lots of issues and would be very hard for me to vote for.

BIDEN's Afghanistan policy was Trump's Afghanistan policy. It is indeed the worse thing BIDEN has done as President and I voted for BIDEN specifically because I thought he would REVERSE TRUMP's Afghan policy. It was TRUMP who negotiated with the TALIBAN without the Afghan Government or Military at the table and it was TRUMP who agreed to a withdrawal date of all U.S. troops with the TALIBAN. TERRIBLE POLICY, and BIDEN followed it almost exactly except for maybe not dotting i or crossing a t in some places.
