Who do you think wins?

I will always give you credit for this, sealy. You self-reflect. Almost no one here does, so seriously--props for that.

I am so philosophically liberal when it comes to what creates a strong middle class, I can and will never be conned into going along with what's going on. We just handed our government over to the rich. Said we don't care if they break the laws. We are so fucked Sue. So fucked.

I always say, the only reason I'm upper middle class is

a. Because I don't have kids.
b. I'm assuming I will make money for the next 8-11 years. We will see if I can afford private healthcare at 62-64. This is why I say fuck my nephews. If I have to tap into my life savings to retire early, I'm going to. They're rich they'll be okay. And they voted for Trump. If they cut my social security, I'll survive. It'll just be less money I leave behind. To two MAGA idiots! Fuck it! LOL

That's why I asked if you have a pension. You probably got healthcare too when you retired at 55. Bitch! LOL. JK.

My bro went to MSU. Better school. Both his sons went or are going to MSU. When each of them was deciding on a school, I would always suggest EMU and our entire family would laugh. One of them is now in law school. Very proud.

Don't look it up, no shade, I'm just curious. What percentage of my highest three years' salary will I get when I retire from MI? Make your best guess.

75%? I know you will have it pretty good. And how old will you be when you retire? Probably in your 50's right? Thank your union for that. Republicans hate unions ESPECIALLY public unions. Teaching union is public union.

My sister in law continues to work at the school she worked at her whole life. She's already reached her retirement but she doesn't want to make 75% (I think that's what it is) so she works for 100%. But that's working for 25% right? Shouldn't she retire, get the 75% and then if she wants more money go get a job at a private school?

Isn't she working for 25%? Or is her pension going to be bigger because she's working longer? Maybe that would be incentive to stay longer.

No, not even close. 50% and have to pay for health insurance.

The unions have been irrelevant for years.

If she is getting 75% then she saved privately ON TOP of her pension.

Not even close. These last 4 years Unions have been making huge gains for all kinds of uneducated blue collar workers. Actors, healthcare, hospitality, fast food, casino workers, dock workers, auto workers, Amazon workers, UPS workers, You just don't seem to realize without a seat at the table, you wouldn't be making what you are making now. Or maybe you'd make $1 more an hour but no pension. I'll take the pension.

I believe in the past teachers got health care. So they are taking on your union and winning. Yes, teachers today don't make what they used to.

P.S. You didn't finish your masters? That means you don't make as much as my sister in law. I know the pay goes up if you have a masters. You say you don't have one?

Even educated teachers in the south have benefited.

The Beverly Teachers Association had said it is pushing for smaller class sizes in the 4,500-student district, 12 weeks of paid parental leave and a “living wage” for paraprofessionals or teachers assistants whose starting salary is $20,000.

Teacher strikes are illegal in Massachusetts

On Nov. 12, judges imposed a fine of $50,000 on the unions in Beverly and Gloucester that they said would increase by $10,000 for every day teachers remained on strike.

This is the end of unions. And you'll see in the future, paraprofessionals and teachers assistants will NEVER make more than $20,000 a year. EVER!

It doesn't matter for you pension if you have a Master's; it's the last three years of your pay, whatever it is. In MI, you get 50% of that, but we also get SS when we qualify. Some states do not.

And no, I didn't get my full Master's. I got chronically ill when it was time, and then hubby and I decided it just wasn't worth it. Unlike in the private sector, we have to pay for almost all of ours.

Teaching is in a terrible position and it's just getting worse. Sadly.

One thing I hope we do is privatize education. If you have a kid, you pay for their education. Or don't. School will no longer be necessary. It's over rated. Don't need a K-12 degree to work on the farm or take over the family business or even be a plumber.

We had 4 billion people in 1970. We have 8 now. I think it's good we aren't breeding like we used to.

Then we can put half the lottery money into social security and medicare not schools.

The Fed workers who have enjoyed cradle-to-grave job security their entire careers, and for the last five years have “worked” from home, can get 80% of their salary if they stayed on the old system. I know of two such people:

1) One is a GS-13 step 10, now 65 and entered the federal workforce at 22, earns $153,000 a year. If he were to retire today, he would get $120,000 a year, pegged to rise with inflation,

2) The other one was a GS-15 for the 20 years I’ve know him, meaning he was steo 10 until he retired last year. That means he retired with a salary of $190,000 - and a pension, tied to inflation, of $150,000 a year,

But wait: it gets better. He is now contracting back the same job at around $300 - $400 an hour. He’s only doing it part-time, but peg that for another $200,000 a year. He is getting $350,000 a year for - all on the backs of taxpayers. Now multiply that by at least 10,000 retoRees doimg the same thing.

This is the first place Elon should start: govt retirees getting 6-figure pensions and then contracting back to continue the same job at $200,000 additional.

Those of us in the private sector have to pay for almost all of ours as well. My last job gave us $2000 toward tuition.

My Republican buddy retired from the police, getting a pension. He ran for county clerk. Won. Just won a 2nd term. If he finishes his 2nd term, he will get a second pension just as big as his cop pension when he retires.

And when inflation hit he gave himself and everyone else a pay raise. He now makes 6 figures.

Well, my daughter is 25 years old and makes my salary now in her first few professional years. Believe me, I'm proud of her, adore her and am very happy for her. But it used to be that you would sacrifice, as a teacher, a great paycheck for the feeling that you're making a difference.

The way society treats us now, why would anyone do this?

The answer is: no one is. We are getting out and few young people are going into it.

I'm sorry.....what? WHAT?!?!

300 to 400 dollars an HOUR???

I'm blown away and disgusted to be honest

As the economy recovered from the covid pandemic, the stock market began to recover, but it is debatable how much Biden's policies contributed to the recovery, but the stock market surge on news that Trump had won is clearly optimism the Trump's policies will be good for the US economy.

Have you seen the stock market lately? I told you that the one good day was just because the election was not contested. The stock market wasn't "happy" that Trump won. In fact now, it's tanking because of uncertainty.

U.S. stocks down for 10th straight session: What market insiders are saying

Isn't the stock market worried about the global economy and not just the American economy? Does the stock market care about the American economy or just the economy? What happens in Canada, Mexico and China and Russia effects the economy right?

It’s down cause the Fed stated more rate cuts may be tempered

Excuses.

Hey, why is Trump asking the government to raise the debt ceiling? He wants to borrow/spend more? Boy you guys are dumb.
Trump is shutting it down to reduce pork. Pile of rocks, what do you do for work?

I'm in sales.

I think this is great. Shut the government down, cut social security, cause a recession, take us to war, destroy the middle class, privatize the post office,

You'll pay more to mail things but hey, Elon will get a tax break. That's called shifting the burden on to you pile o rocks.
