That's a year old, and yeah, the guy was dumb. The officer was charged for the shooting but charges were dismissed. She claimed she was reaching for her taser (a much wiser choice when the target is tangled up with another officer) and mistakenly puller her pistol instead and accidentally shot the guy. Not that he didn't deserve it after that display of stupidity.

That is definitely a training issue.

It should be second nature to grab the right weapon, especially when the result carries such high stakes, which can be achieve through training.

What I mean is that he didn't give the guy 1 chance to comply with the traffic stop, then arrest him on the spot (which the cop has the authority to do). He tried to reason with that ass hole. Tried to show some understanding. Told the guy he would make it as quick as possible. Tried to explain why resisting is a bad idea. He kept calm and did not get cross with the driver, until the driver made it clear that he would never comply and that arrest was the only alternative.

But, it sounds like you're saying that if the cop walked up to the car and shot that dude, "conservatives" would react the same?

I’ve seen it. Little kids murdered without warning to conservative delight, a victim who’d committed no crime shot in the back to conservative cheers, and many other times.
