White House Senses Political Risk on Healthcare Despite Shutdown Bravado

he is not as far underwater as you and your demafacist party, who have hit record lows.

That's really all that matters. He will continue to win, when you don't have alternative that the American people want. You might get butt hurt because he post videos and memes, which ironically, dembot do too, but you know what? The American people would rather see that, then accept your violent death cult.
Congressional approval makes no difference. Shit.. the DEMS picked UP a seat in the 2024 election and the special elections have not been kind to the GOP in 2025. The ONLY thing people vote on is how they think the president is doing.

‘Trump has projected unwavering confidence that he is winning the messaging war over the government shutdown. But behind the scenes, his team is increasingly concerned that the issue at the center of the debate will create political vulnerabilities for Republicans.

Advisers are worried that the GOP will take the blame for allowing healthcare subsidies to expire, raising costs for millions of Americans ahead of next year’s midterm elections, according to administration officials.

Inside the White House, aides are discussing proposals to extend the enhanced subsidies for Affordable Care Act health-insurance plans, the officials said. Trump hasn’t yet decided whether he will endorse such a proposal, according to the officials. Republicans say they will only hold negotiations with Democrats on the matter after the government is reopened.

The closed-door hand-wringing stands in contrast to the public bravado conveyed by the president and his top advisers. Trump has posted artificial-intelligence videos of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) wearing a sombrero. And he has said the shutdown gives his administration an “unprecedented opportunity” to make far-reaching cuts and target programs favored by Democrats. The administration is preparing to oust thousands of federal workers.’

Extending the subsidies for the ACA shouldn’t even be an issue, ending the subsidies should not have been in the reckless, irresponsible legislation passed by Republicans – that legislation and the current shutdown is typical of the right’s insanity and contempt for sound, responsible governance.

Republicans have only themselves to blame, being responsible for increasing healthcare costs for millions of Americans.

As for Trump posting AI videos, further proof Trump is a racist, bigot, and unfit to hold any public office.
Trump indicated early on he did not want to change Medicaid. The GOP in the house did it to appease the freedom anarchists and they will just have to pay the price for it. I don't blame trump for that. I blame him for his refusal to compromise.

They have increased massively since Obamacare started and was high before that. Medical rationing will come here out of necessity.
That is just untrue. Obamacare, or what should be called the Affordable Care Act, reduced health insurance premiums almost across the board. And it significantly reduced health care inflation. I mean the ACA happened so long ago we all forgot what it was like before. Companies switching health insurance plans every year. The individual market was totally fucked. But with the ACA more people, many healthy people, became part of the risk pool. That risk was better diversified, costs came down.

You have no idea the impact the ACA had, on the health insurance marketplace, on hospital care and quality, even concerning the affordability of prescription drugs. But all those things were to be expected. The impact on productivity, GDP growth, entrepreneurship, was historical. We are still riding that wave today.

Let me explain these additional subsidies, that yes, were due to Covid, and are set to expire. For the most part, they are additional subsidies to enrollees that choose a "Silver" plan. That subsidy allowed them to purchase the Silver plan for the same price, out of their pocket, as a "Bronze" plan. When they get the notification for the new year, well they are automatically enrolled in the same plan by default, they will have to actively make a decision. And doubling of premium, if not even much more than that, like say from zero to three hundred bucks.

Now I don't think it will be the mass exodus that the doomsayers are predicting. I believe most will just settle in to a Bronze plan. The deductibles will be eye-popping. No more co-pays for office visits, no first dollar coverage for prescriptions. The costs won't show up right away, they will just start nickel and diming you, kind of like the tariffs.

And make no mistake, this is still about the right's obsession with destroying the ACA. They want that ball and chain back, the ball and chain that was employer provided health care.

I am not talking about Congressional approval. Why don't you start addressing the issues presented instead of ignoring them?

Millions of people’s health insurance premiums will double.

When it reverts back to Obamacare as originally conceived? But you guys said that was the greatest. Do you mean it wasn't?

See below for why that is untrue.

That's why what you said is untrue. Those healthy people who were able to purchase cheaper, catastrophic care plans, saw their premiums increase dramatically.

As they should because the COVID crisis is past.

My personal experience was vastly different. Before obamadon'tcare, every job I had provided health insurance at very low or no cost to me. After it, my insurance costs went through the roof. You can't just mandate a whole bunch of new coverage and expect costs to stay the same or go down.

In the worlds richest nation we cant figure out health care. Its mind boggling.

Yeah, only 29 of the top 30 wealthiest countries have it. And the cost is less than half what the American "system" costs.

I am not talking about Congressional approval. Why don't you start addressing the issues presented instead of ignoring them?
The issue is that Trump continues to go backwards and turn off more people than he pleases with this authoritarian approach to leading a democracy. He'll get fucked in the midterms at this rate and I am here for the entertainment when you all cry "rigged elections!". He'll need a miracle to pull out something next year. Possible, but unlikely.

I have no idea where you worked. But a lot of people were provided with fig leaf policies by their employers, and were dumb enough to think they were fully covered. Big retailers like Wal Mart boasted about "full benefits" when they only offered a $2000 max payout.

And EVERY health insurannce policy you ever hand included a cap on maximum benefits, which is not legal anymore.

And, since you claim that every job you ever had provided health insurance at no cost or low cost to you, it's obvious that you have no idea what any of that insurance actually cost.

In fact, employers have been dumping increasing percentages of health insurance premiums on their employees for nearly 40 years. And the percentages have steadily increased during that period.

Of course, Trump embraced Medicare Advantage, which has resulted in millions being stuck with big bills, and a lot of obvious dubious promotion in order to get people to buy junk insurance.

Open enrollment is about to start, so there will be another orgy of promoting junk to suckers.

IOW, obamadon'tcare didn't really improve things a whole lot, just dumped costs back onto the taxpayers, which the democrats shut down the government over, wanting to continue "emergency" subsidy increases that were designed for the COVID crisis, which no longer exists. Let's face reality, obamadon'tcare can't survive on its own without taxpayer assistance.

There has been no change to the growth of healthcare cost (graph 1) yet more people are now covered (graph 2). Your personal experience can be anything - many companies raised rates to shift the burden to employees. The data sources are notated for you.

The facts and figures wont matter to you though. Most of you are still trying to blame Obama for your hemorrhoids.

I don't have any, so that doesn't apply to me. But keep trying, we know you can do it.

The issue is that the vast majority of American people dislike you and your Demafascist cult.

And because of that, and the fact you all stand for shutting the govt down so illegals can get benefits, and for tax payer funds going to big insurance companies, you won't win.

I can't wait to get Trump's healthcare plan. It'll be like, what, two more weeks?

Why don't you get your own healthcare plan? Why are you waiting around for someone else to provide one for you? That really is the problem with you dembots, you are just lazy

Had we had our way, the United States would have joined the rest of the developed nations in adopting single payer universal national health insurance.

Obamacare is the bastard child of policy planners and lobbyists. The American medical industrial complex poured millions into lobbying, influence buying, and advertising to prevent that.

They wanted this hybrid system, which had produced huge profits for everyone in the complex, and never really addressed cost control at all (which is what they wanted).

The insurance industry got the government to subsidize the premiums of people who ordinarily were priced out of insurance altogether.

Which is the same thing they did in the 1960's with Medicare.

Yep Obama and the Demafasict are own by big insurance

Perhaps you misinterpreted my comments.

I am a strong supporter of the ACA. My only regret is that we were lobbied out of creating single payer national health insurance.

I was not talking out of personal experience, I was discussing long term trends. (I could have spoken from personal experience, as the my shared of "company provided" health insurance premiums has steadily increased over the years from zero, to approximately 50%) This is not uncommon outside large corporations or government agencies.
