Also these messages are kept on phones, these are open to users who have no passcode or face ID...

Even the most basic large company who has iPhones (for example) in their employees hands, have a X Server controlling them, enforcing security, remote wiping, remote monitoring...... This is standard on Corporation phones, main reason is GDPR.

GDPR states that if you a unencrypted or unsecured device with customer information (even in Email) and one of the customers is an EU Citizen, then you have to report to the media the loss personal information to the media. This doesn't matter if the Company is American and server is in America.
