A president has no obligation to show his taxes. They do show them, as a courtesy, and I think that’s a good thing, but it isn’t a requirement. Because of that, it doesn’t give congress the right to try to obtain them illegally, and without cause. “What is he hiding” is not an excuse to go after someone’s personal information. That is the literal definition of “we want his taxes to see if he committed a crime”, aka “witch hunt”.

As to what was he hiding? Nobody knows. We’ve never had a president who has been into big business like trump. There may have been business reasons trump didn’t want his taxes public. When you are doing business from people all over the world, divulging sources of income and numbers that people he does business with could be detrimental to his business.

Also, as of yet, have they found anything wrong with his taxes?
