The problem is the electoral system doesn't give people a proper choice, doesn't give them oversight, hands all the power to the rich.
The electoral system has positives and negatives associated with it.
The biggest detractor is that representatives need to be re-elected.

And a good sounding sound byte will win over real integrity every time. The whole truth is ALWAYS nuanced...and people don't want to hear the whole truth. They prefer the sound bytes which trigger hot prejudices.
Anger farming has been the most effective political tool. But it can never be aimed at those funding your candidacy.

Even worse, the USA disregards many of the harms demonstrated by the science because the Food Industry Lobbyists donate to politicians who vote in favour of "deregulation". Trump ran on "deregulation".

You have the highest rate of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease in the world. All of these issues are diet related. And Trump doesn't want your foods regulated at all.

So either you want your food highly regulated, like Canada or the EU, or you want "derulation" of the food industry, which Trump supports. Which is it?
First off....it's our nation....if you aren't part of American life or consider yourself to be....go away!

Secondly.
Natural foods and products in Europe ARE the majority of European diets. You literally can usually point and view the field that grew the wheat, turn and look at the mill that ground the flour, then turn and point at the bakery baking your bread. Even the farms that made the eggs, milk, cheese and butter are in the neighborhood. The gardens producing the vegetables are right there too.

Their "regulations" are there to protect their citizens from precisely what has happened in America. No corporate foods. Or at a minimum they are too expensive to purchase regularly by most people.

And yes, the science used is crap science. The objectives of the research a foregone conclusion before the science is performed.
True Science demonstrates correlation and not causation first and foremost. And if you control the question then the answer is a foregone conclusion. So there still remains the problem of how things are researched by the selection of which scientific study is performed.

Which is the the main issue being forced into discussion. What we have now is the result of the crap research of not asking the questions that we needed asked and that research being performed.

And we are being deliberately poisoned so executives can afford their new yachts and better quality cigars.

If you were to switch to scratch Pullman loaf bread made with plain shortening instead of butter like I make mine. (Butter is always better but its closer to what the industry makes) Switch for a month for all your breakfast toast and sandwiches you eat. Then try the store bought once again. You will spit it out.
It's no longer bread to you but is something similar to chemically made cotton candy.

You marvel at how you used to eat it regularly without compunction as a staple in your regular diet. Same thing holds true for hamburger buns or whatever. Even the "Whole wheat" bread is not any different. It may even be worse.

EVERY item in the stores is the exact same way. From the pasta aisle with macaroni and cheese to frozen lasagne. None are any good anymore. The basic raw ingredients, which should be cheaper, are more expensive because the producers are not using real food anymore to produce the processed foods you are buying.

That should be the first real clue. You are being poisoned so that an executive can afford his new yacht because he wants to have enough room for more half naked models on-board it.

And that's literally what it is all about. Providing nourishing food to consumers/customers? It's a niche marketing phrase....not anything that really concerns them.

When food comes in a brightly 4-color printed flimsy cardboard box....there's a strong possibility that it never was food to begin with. (4 color printing is the most expensive printing)

This has been something that I've recently started looking into a lot, and we've been trying to eat better and healthier. Is it true though, that even the basic scratch ingredients are still heavily processed, i.e. the flour that you're using in making the bread, etc... I read a book called Wheat Belly that discussed all of the issues that have risen since we have completely switched to genetically modified wheat, Chrones, Gluten intolerance, Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, etc.. and their war on fat, when fat wasn't the culprit at all. And then trying to force consumers into eating 'low fat' diets was probably the cause of the Type 2 diabetes epidemic since they replaced all of the fat with sugar to enhance flavor. The so-called scientists that pushed all of this bullshit are pure evil, and why I have no faith whatsoever in the scientific community, especially if sponsored or funded by the government. I had the same experience with beef, about 10+ years ago we started buying a side of beef from local farms, we couldn't believe the difference in flavor and quality from the store, and have never gone back.

LOL you are so full of shit. The FDA is full of Big Pharma/Food execs that have them all bribed. Just like how the Defense Industry owns the Pentagon.

As for your statement about regulation vs deregulation. We want Big Food/Pharma regulated when it comes to their artificially made crap. We want homegrown small farmers/ranchers deregulated so they can sell cheap high quality products. If Big Food wants to make organic things and non-GMO, that is fine. But the artificial crap needs to go.

Two similar sized pieces of Pullman bread one from the store and one I make. The store Pullman has a very immediate effect and scratch does not on her blood sugar.

She eats store bread and her blood sugar skyrockets. She eats scratch and nothing happens. The scratch is also much richer and heavier....more weight. (Likely more flour)

The specialty flour used by industrial bakeries is not available in grocery stores or by food vendors servicing restaurants. Completely subsidized by the government.

Its obviously Genetically Modified.
I usually buy All Trumps which is a high protein content bread flour. (14%). I used to use Superlative....but it's harder to get anymore. (All of these are only in 50 lb bags)

Even Semolina (general mills) bought and made into pasta (again in 50 lb bags) turns out pasta needing only butter and garlic. (My wife was completely shocked it actually has a wonderful flavor all by itself....she didn't know)

It's cheaper for these basic ingredients to not be GMO wheat varieties than to use the expensive versions which are GMO seed. (Drought resistant or glycol resistant)

So....the only difference left is the soil quality and how well the farmers treat their farmland. Some soils and climates can produce more but lower flavor grains or produce. Some produce less but higher flavor grains and produce.

Pick your poison on those.

I tend to agree with trying to make the foods we have healthier. Not that they should be telling you WHAT to eat, but, they should make the foods we do have, better.

I think European countries have better food standards. They don't allow all the chemicals, additives, and crap that america allows to be put in our foods. In those respects, i think we should be more like Europe.

Eating a big mac in Europe is generally better than eating a big mac in america, and the same goes with the rest of the foods.

Thank you! You are a wealth of great information, your wife is very blessed to have you! My husband has Type 2 Diabetes, he was diagnosed maybe 4-5 years ago. He's never been overweight though, so it was surprise when he got the diagnosis. We have been doing a lot of research and were amazed by what we found. The medical field treats Type 2 diabetes entirely the wrong way, they treat it with insulin, when it is actually a disease of too much insulin and insulin resistance. And my son developed Gluten intolerance about 10 years ago, so I've read extensively on that as well. It's just amazing how the medical field just goes along with old science and continues down the same wrong path to treat disease, especially Type 2 diabetes. And considering what an epidemic that is, it's really shameful that they insist on treating people the wrong way. And food is a huge factor with that disease, along with the FDA recommendations on how often and what to eat. They've recommended the low fat diet, eating more carbs, eating more meals a day, etc... It's all the wrong information.

I didn't know that about the flour, so that's good know, and I'm wondering if it would have the same effect on my husband's blood sugar as well. I know wheat is higher than sugar on the glycemic index, so he tries to stay away from it as much as possible. Perhaps I will look into a bread maker and also start to make our own bread. I don't know about making my own pasta, might be a little too ambitious for me.. If you ever start a thread on this topic, tag me, I'd love to participate!

Many times, the reformed give the best advice. Obama was pushing healthy eating habits while being morbidly obese herself. That's a whole different thing
I am sure you know that no matter what the dietitian looks like they are being yer Mom....Was she morbidly obese also?
