I'm not sure what "new age Leftist" policies may be, but all advanced, first-world democracies have adopted a plethora of progressive policies. Besides Western Europe, nations such as Israel have achieved universal healthcare and many other such enlightened innovations in self-governance.

Conservatives in the United States have vehemently opposed emancipation, women's suffrage, child labor laws, gender equality in marriage contracts, Social Security, Medicare, etc., etc., etc., and the nation has thrived and prospered over the period those liberal reforms have been adopted.

A regulated capitalistic system with social welfare programs seems to be the common profile for relative success.

Conservative, authoritarian regimes, on the other hand, have not progressed nearly as much, if at all:

Any time the rural republican areas inadvertently produce individuals with the ambition to be better off than their parents where do they move to?

Where do they move to? Sometimes to republican filled subdivisions to be near offices in republican filled suburbs. Other times its a few blocks away from their married parents so they and their spouses can raise their children together near other family members in safe and wholesome neighborhoods where there is little crime and its safe to let their kids play in the yard or ride their bicycles to school.

You don't see a lot of republicans, or centrist democrats for that matter, living on the dole. They do better themselves because they go to work every day and apply themselves to earn a better life.
