When we say trump is stifling dissent, this is what we mean.

FEMA Suspends Staff Who Signed a Letter Criticizing Trump

The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday suspended around 30 employees after those workers wrote to Congress warning that the Trump administration had gutted the nation’s ability to handle hurricanes, floods and other extreme weather disasters.

Of the 182 FEMA employees who signed the letter to Congress, 36 attached their names, while the rest withheld their identities for fear of retaliation.

Those who used their names received emails on Tuesday night saying they had been placed on paid administrative leave “effective immediately, and continuing until further notice,” according to copies of the emails reviewed by The New York Times.

The emails did not provide a reason for the decision. Representatives for FEMA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I very much hope what happened to these FEMA employees, and what happened to the three star general, Jeffrey Kruse, who wrote a report detailing the damage to Iranian nuclear facilities in contradiction of trump's hyperbolic characterization (it was a lie), does not have the desired effect.

I hope it does not intimidate employees of the government, or any person really, from speaking the truth. The truth being this government's mortal enemy. But I fear it will. I fear intimidation works. When I see law firms and universities acquiescing to threats from trump.......I know it does.

What I don't know is how many people will be silenced for fear of retribution? I don't know how much will we not learn about the inner workings of our government because people are afraid of our government?

How did 182 sign the letter and only 30 sign their names? What were the other 150? Just X’s? How do we know they were actually people?

This story makes no sense

A handful of disgruntled bureaucrats among an army of them.

FEMA should be quiet after the North Carolina fail. It really wasn't FEMA but more Biden incompetence but it was a fail
Oh, it was FEMA incompetence alright.

Name the last first disaster that they adequately responded to.

If your behavior damages the reputation of your employer, you're nothing but a liability. You can have your speech everywhere else but in your official capacity.

So, keep your mouth shut and do your job. That's it.

These people work for Trump.
Those people work for we the people, not trump. You folks seem to forget that essential fact. trump is not the government. He is a temporary steward of the office of POTUS who will be gone soon.................though admittedly not soon enough.

You seem to have a great misunderstanding of the US Constitution, people working in the Executive branch work for Trump. All the power of the Executive vest in a President. Nobody else. See Art 2, Sect 1, the first line.

And?

It's government employees complaining about the policies of an elected President. You don't get to do that when the policies in question are the ones you are supposed to be implementing.

Government is not a private enterprise. DHS employees are charged with keeping the country safe. If the discharge of their duties means being critical of Dotard's decisions it is their right and their obligation to let the public know he is making the country less safe.

They don't get to decide policy, their job is to implement it.

Sure, but they don't have a right to work for him. Peace out....go get Soros to pay you to riot about it

They work for the president, he is their boss. Trump represents our interests as the duly elected president. That is what Chief Executive is all about. Try harder.

Aren't you folks all in a tizzy over Dem's remaining silent over Biden showing his age? Haven't you asked why they didn't speak up?

If someone in the Biden admin had gone public with concerns over his mental acuity.........AND WAS FIRED........you would have lit your hair on fire.

Removing Biden hacks from the government is not opposed to dissent.
