Some immigrant groups, such as Jews, some Asian groups, Indians, to name a few, tend to be able to come to the U.S. and become successful. How do they do this? They place a very strong emphasis on family. In other words, most of them have intact families, with a mommy and daddy present who are involved and pushing their kids. They know that strong family support systems are their best means of survival and success.
Sure they run into their fair share of racial profiling and stereotypes, and that's my point. You see no shortage of ridicule leveled at immigrants. And guess what? It only makes them stronger, due in large part to them sticking together in units and families. Once they attain a certain level of economic independence they tend to blend in pretty well.
If we were free to shame blacks in the same way, some of them would rise and assimilate, and the ones that don't would find themselves without the system in place that supports the behaviors that keep them from it.
