WHATEVER the real number is, it cannot come close to compensating the U.S. government for their cost to our "Safety Net," including SNAP, housing subsidies, free public education for their kids, Medicaid, and so on. This is because the Supreme Court ruled many years ago that such benefits cannot be withheld due to non-citizen status.

When Trump 45 promised to make Mexico "pay for the Wall," he was hoping to tax the remittances at approximately the same rate as, say, a small businessman pays in SS - about 13% - and use the proceeds to pay for the Wall.
