And, EPA policies have stopped the supply. That's what happened. California in it's own socialist wisdom demands special blends, and even these blends are not uniform throughout the state. The EPA closes the refineries, now you have a shortage on the supply side.

In January, Hovensa entered into a consent decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Justice Department in which the company agreed to invest $700 million on pollution controls after a series of chemical releases affected people living downwind from the refinery.
Hovensa also agreed to pay a $5.4 million penalty for violating the Clean Air Act.

With the additional modification costs and fines, it was no longer economical to operate the refinery and the decision was made to close it.

So tell me Obama blocks the shipping of 700,000 barrels of oil a day via a closed pipeline that at ANY ONE time in one mile of the 2,000 mile pipe less then 300 BARRELS are at risk to be spilled!

YET Obama blocked it.. because of environmental concerns!

YET Canada will ship that oil via 1 million barrel tankers LIKE EXXON VALDEZ!
Remember that spill that affected 1,000 miles in oceans, killed millions of wildlife cost still going on!

So environmental risks of 300 barrels in one mile VS 1 million barrels EVERY
Day in ONE tanker on the arctic seas, with drunken captains and mechanical failures and have you ever cleaned a seabird covered with oil???

A whole lot of politicians are responsible for the fact that this country has not built a new refinery for many years. However, the vast majority of them have a (D) following their name. The cost of building new refineries has been driven so high, that they are not economically feasible. The same applies to enlarging and modernizing existing refineries.
