We probably have a lot in common concerning our outlook on Reagan's policies, but we definitely have a different view of what defines leadership. Here is a good summary on how I view it:

He was the "Great Communicator", but he was playing the role of President, and his Administration and the corruption of Iran Contra, Abscam, and other indications of out of control underlings, and shadow corruption demonstrates in spades, how weak Reagan's leadership really was.

There were more criminal charges against members of the Reagan Administration that against Nixon's underlings. I remember Reagan going on TV and saying that he didn't know, but he should have known. That was his job. He was correct, in that, but what was most shocking in this was that his subordinates would dare run these questionable operations without his knowledge. The only bosses I would have ever have considered disobeying or hiding something from were the weaklings I could pull shit on with impunity. An old man in early stages of Alzheimers. Yeah, Reagan was very weak in leadership.

I do give him credit for recognizing that "trickle down" wasn't working, and in raising taxes to try to compensate. Too bad future generations of Republicans didn't remember that lesson.

Real Americans, by a margin of 7 million votes, registered their preference for leadership in November.

What they don't want, is divisive demagoguery that demeans the majority of Americans as not being REAL Americans.

A President that has the diplomatic skills to win democratic allies is, clearly, far preferable to a sniveler who is incapable of working with others.

That's because they AREN'T real Americans. And compromise=surrender.

Reagan was falling asleep during cabinets meetings, and announced his Alzheimer's diagnosis 8 years after leaving the White House, when Ronnie's condition could no longer be hidden.

Reagan claimed not to know anything about the Iran/Contra operations that Oliver North and others were running out of the White House, the Pentagon and the CIA. Strong, effective leaders don't have rogue military officers running their own operations under his nose. If Reagan didn't know, he should have.

As for Trump, the only country he put first was Russia. Trump took over the strongest economy in the world, and crashed it into a tree, ceding world and NATO leadership to Angela Merkel, and economic leadership to China, all while destroying encouraging white nationalist extremism at home.

Trump allowed the Russians to hack the US government and plant spyware you might never get rid of. He let the Russians place bounties on your troops, and Kim develop a nuclear arsenal.

He tore up all of your trade deals, and increased the US trade deficit by $200 billion dollars, and allowed a virus to run lose and kill half a million Americans.

If this is your definition of a "great President", you're living in upside down land.

Reagan was not involved with Abscam. And I believe that the United States makes deals at times that comes back to bite them in the as. Iran Contra was most likely one of them. Where what choice do they have? Reagan for the first 4 years was the best President in my lifetime that I could vote for. And he had what we now know as the swamp involved with him.
