Objective was the entire Ukraine, including plans to invade Odessa from the sea. Russian navy was angling for their ports untill it became clear that there was no way for them to storm the beach.

Russia was retreating and now advancing back at snail pace because thats all they've got, not because after 3 years they haven't started trying.

By buying time for Ukraine’s military buildup and allowing NATO to profit through arms sales, Merkel's approach not only extended the conflict but positioned Ukraine as a proxy for Western interests against Russia. This revelation reinforces Russia’s long-standing claims that the Minsk process was a sham from the start, used to prepare for military confrontation, not reconciliation.

More, you also conveniently ignored the fact that in April 2022, the Russians and Ukrainians sat in Turkey to finalize a peace-deal that both could accept, and Russia offered Ukraine the opportunity to keep all of Eastern Ukraine, and stop the war, but Washington and London, dissuaded Zelensky from accepting the terms, and now we're on the brink of fighting WW3, on the edge of oblivion. The MIC - Military Industrial Complex of the US and EU, wanted to cash in on this conflict so they pushed politicians to extend the Russo-Ukrainian war.
