TWO of the Founders. They weren't speaking for ALL of the Founders.
The definition of what promotes the "general welfare" has changed since 1776, and today's "Originalists" fail to so much as acknowledge this fact. The Founders seemed to be aware that things would change since they made provision to amend the Constitution.
Republicans are talking about the Constitution as a religious relic which must never be changed, even as they rewrite the definitions of what the Founders meant by all of this.
The Constitution was written for a small coastal federation of 13 states along the Atlantic coast, with an agrarian economy and a total population of fewer than 3 million people, including slaves. It's woefully out of date, and has resulted in your current political deadlocks.
Americans are big on name calling. You're like a bunch of middle schoolers. The names are meaningless because none of the people calling others "communists" have the first clue as to what communism is all about or how it's structured.
As soon as someone refers to a leftist as a "communist", I dismiss anything else they have to say, because they've just demonstrated that they're an idiot, and don't know what they're talking about.
