It wasn't so much that sin was not seen as destructive to society anymore, as it was that people decided sin was subjective--that what was sin to some may not be seen as sin to others. Each individual could decide for him/herself what was right for them, and what was wrong. This led to dissension and chaos in society. They wanted a king to decree what was right and what was wrong so that society might come together and live peaceably among themselves again.
