They do provide a very limited amount of protection but not much at this point in some areas. Too many people think this is all a partisan issue and its not. It is a corrupt system where the only way you get congress to act on anything is enough people understand what some of the government officials and Congress Members have been up to. The way it is that is hard to do because so many people have been lied to for so long. People are given a choice vote this way or that way but then all the propaganda hits in the middle and they don't know which way to vote. Personally I am looking at the records and history of anyone I vote for or support at this point. If the people cannot get involved in the process they depend on someone else to make their decisions. For instance you have Republicans selling out on this issue item through (i) (but well a few can and get it passed) and Democrats on these issue item through (z) but not that others issue (but well a few can and get it passed) issue and the people are getting screwed each and every time. You don't have enough people in Congress yet that won't be bought and paid for as they are protecting their own ass and saying to hell with everyone else. F' the parties; get together and start protecting people from the politicians and their makers if they are bought and paid for sellouts. The tort process won't work if the government refuses to do its job and prosecute crimes. When judges are bought and paid for you can't just go sue the person, company or people that damaged you. It sounds all nice but it does not work that away. What if there's no one else to buy or get services from because unfettered(unregulated) capitalism has driven out all the competition? There's also the matter of pollution and unsafe working conditions. Unfettered capitalism considers worrying about them to be unproductive and therefore ignores their effects.Capitalism is a self regulating system. Charge too much, someone will undercut you. Deliver bad goods/services? People will stop buying. Cheat someone? Expect a big lawsuit. The problems that people cite with "capitalism" usually are the result of lack of capitalism, i.e. gov't intrusion. Capitalism has raised standards of living and brought people out of poverty. Why would anyone want to fetter that?
There has never been a monopoly in the history of capitalism that wasn't legally enforced. Unsafe working conditions have been resolved by lawsuits. The record shows that the creation of OSHA has zero affect on the reduction in workplace accidents and illnesses.
Pollution issues can be resolved through the tort process.
Yeah? So how are government regulatory agencies any different?
