Many years ago, as an Army enlisted soldier, I had an "invitation" to go to West Point. I was ordered to the USMA (West Point) Prep School and only had to spend a few months there to get an automatic appointment to West Point. I wanted no part of it.

When I "resigned" from the prep school I had to go through an interview with the "headmaster" (or whatever he was called), a full-bird colonel. He told me that if I went through with the resignation I would never amount to anything. I'm sure he believed what he was saying.

That "insult" motivated me for the next fifteen years of my life through the moment when I was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar.

When I was in Primary Leadership School in the Army, we had to grade each others potential, and one night me and a couple other guys snuck into the drill sergeant's office and got in the file cabinet and read what everyone in the class said about each other. Everyone gave me a positive review except the only other person in the class who was in an aviation unit and sat right next to me in class.

He said he saw little potential in me.
