Justice Dept. to focus on ‘most egregious’ Jan. 6 cases until Trump is inaugurated

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department plans to focus on arresting the “most egregious” Jan. 6 rioters — particularly those who committed felony assaults on law enforcement officers but have not yet been arrested — in the remaining 72 days before President-elect Donald Trump is back in the White House, a law enforcement official told NBC News this week.

Trump is expected to shut down the years-long investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack and has said he would “absolutely” pardon some, if not all, of his supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol that day, labeling them “warriors,” “unbelievable patriots,” political prisoners and “hostages.” A Trump campaign spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on which rioters Trump would consider pardoning, though the campaign previously said that he would pardon Jan. 6 defendants on a “case-by-case basis when he is back in the White House.”

Trump says he may free every Jan. 6 rioter. His team is eyeing 'case-by-case' pardons.

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump, who is currently facing felony criminal charges in connection with Jan. 6, said that, if elected, he'd "absolutely" consider pardoning every single one of the hundreds of criminals convicted in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

But Trump's campaign, in a statement to NBC News, said such pardons would be "on a case-by-case basis," not the sort of blanket pardon Trump referred to in a recent interview with Time magazine.

Trump told Time he was "absolutely" considering pardoning every single Capitol rioter, who he described as "J-6 patriots." That group would include Jan. 6 defendants caught on tape brandishing or using firearms, stun guns, flagpoles, fire extinguishers, bike racks, batons, a metal whip, office furniture, pepper spray, bear spray, a tomahawk ax, a hatchet, a hockey stick, knuckle gloves, a baseball bat, a massive "Trump" billboard, "Trump" flags, a pitchfork, pieces of lumber, crutches and even an explosive device during the brutal attack that injured about 140 police officers. "If somebody was evil and bad, I would look at that differently," Trump added in his interview with Time.

I can't recall the context but I remember hearing an audio clip of trump at a rally just before the election saying his staff had asked him not speak on a particular subject. Warning him it was inappropriate. Of course he did it anyway.

So, will he pardon everyone convicted or charged or not yet captured who was involved on Jan. 6 or take his staff's advice? I don't think anyone can say for sure. Don, he's a bit impulsive.

Are you disqualified from being a patriot if you tried to beat a police officer to death, but are one if you only cheered the beating on?

If you had a hatchet but didn't hit a cop with it, is that patriotic? Does taking a shit on the floor in the Capital building or destroying property display loyalty to one's country?

Gee, I know I wouldn't want to be the one to decide who is a patriot and who isn't. It's so darn complex. I rest easy knowing the stable genius must know. He knows everything.

Ray Epps?

Scaffolding Commander?

Whether or not his staff can contain his constant impulse to do the wrong thing is already a question for trump 2.0.

It is my impression that many of the J6 defendants were charged for merely being in the Capitol, possibly after being told to GTFO. Such people will be pardoned, but note that essentially none of them is currently incarcerated, so the pardon will merely be an apology and a paperwork pardon.

For those who actually committed crimes - e.g., assaulting a peace officer - they will get no pardon. Those who were illegally and unconstitutionally detailed for extended periods (longer than 6 months before trial), I suspect they will be compensated in some way.

The Media will be scanning these goings on, looking for an example or two of someone who did something terrible on 1/6 and got a pardon, but they won't find any.

He'll probably pardon some. Some think he might also pardon those Chrisley Knows Best reality TV show people pretty quickly into his second term because prosecutors argued they were "The Trumps of the South".

All you need to understand is the proper role of government. It really only has one role.

Only then can you understand what patriotism means.

And only after that may a reasonable opinion be made as to who is and who isnlt patriotic in the fndamental sense of the term/act.

Unfortunately patriotism is yet another of the many isms which have been twisted so much so as to become and antithetical understanding of what it actually means. Now the term routinely seems to be invoked in a manner to justify everything government does, if it happens to be your preferred politician or party doing it.

I've seen several of your political thoughts around here while just casually flipping through the board.

I do not believe that you know what the proper role of government is. Respectfully speaking...

I appreciate the question itself, though. The one there in the thread title line, I mean.

it's a good question. It's a relevant question.

If a candidate for prez, the nation's highest law officer, says he is "considering" pardoning all Jan. 6 convicts, which include those who beat police officers, why would any citizen vote for that candidate.

Why doesn't a stated disregard for the law, the victims, and the victim's families represent a disqualifying position to take?

The true measure of a Patriot is playing in your feces and then spreading it around the Capital Building and or urinating in the hallways

"The vile vandals apparently took dumps in bathrooms and then spread around their poop, a Schumer insider said.

“It came from the bathroom and they tracked it around,” the source said. “There was an intentional effort to degrade the Capitol building.”

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) of Brooklyn also reported that some members of the mob urinated on the floors during the rampage.

Not sure how you can get more Patriotic than that :doubt:

Good point. The salient question yet to be answered is do members of the mob who beat policemen lose their status as patriots? Are you still a patriot if you did not intervene in the beatings to help a cop like Fanone? It gets tricky.

That's a big philosophical question, really. I mean...I'm not sure patriotism is something that can really be measured at all. You either are or are not, I reckon, and to be a patriot means to act in what you believe are the nation's best interests. It's like what (I think it was) Yasser Arafat said about terrorists.

J6 Insurrection participants are insurrectionists.
Nothing Patriotic about insurrection

we're living in a country where one man's patriot is another's terrorist

Democrats are globalist who consider themselves above nations and by definition cannot be patriotic.

Putin is more American then the average Democrat.

Democrats are globalist traitors working with the WEF on a deputation agenda and intentional collapse of America.

I think that's close to being right. The thing is, one side is right and one is wrong. Our system of justice has made that determination. trump wants to turn that determination on its head.
