What is the best concert you've been to?

The best concert I've ever been to? Probably the Iron Maiden/Megadeth one I went to last September.

Out in the Green concert Dinkelsbuhl, Germany. Jethro Tull, Foreigner, Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones and Bo Didley. Other great concerts: Kansas, Boston, Journey. Best concert ever: The Who...who else? And believe it or not, Steppenwolf put on a helluva show.

I was in the service in the early 80's, stationed in Germany, and I tell ya, those Germans sure knew how to gather a bunch of musicians together to stage an awesome show back then. The Golden Summer-night concert I went to was scheduled from 12 noon to 12 midnight but lasted until 2:00am. Not only that, they had two stages. As one band was playing, the next band would be setting up on the other stage. It was literally scant minutes between the end of one band and the start of the next.

I think the second best concert I ever saw might have been Stevie Ray Vaughn. It was a small venue, maybe 3,000 people, but he played as if he was doing a concert for 30,000 or more. SRV was impressive on a guitar. Shame that he died so young.

I first saw Styx in '73. They were brought to campus to replace an act that cancelled. At the time they were just getting started. Blew me away.

Anyhow- the best... so many good'ns, but the bestest was Yes in '72. They were at their absolute peak and had just released Close to the Edge. Insanity!

At Jacob's Run in Wilmington, NC:

White Zombie in 1992, the day their first video aired on MTV (I was sidestage for that one)
Pantera 1994

At The Tabernacle in Atlanta:

Kid Rock 1999
Godsmack 1999

Agnostic Front at a very small dive bar in Atlantic Beach, NC in 1991. The Fire Marshal closed the venue 30 minutes into it and the band started playing in the back parking lot. 4 ambulances came because the mosh pit got too rough.

Misfits at The Masquerade in Atlanta, 2001 or so.

Rammstein in 2012 in Tampa. It was the absolute loudest concert I've ever attended.

New Orleans International Pop Festival...

Surprising maybe but Billy Joel was one of my favorites. His entire cast was so entertaining and the music was wonderful.

Why would that be surprising?

Well I've been to big rock concerts with hundreds of thousands and some might think those are the best. I saw Billy at our local arena when his songs were fresh and new. It was just such a good experience. Memorable.
