I had always heard the term Savory to mean flavorful.

Now it seems to refer to a specific taste.
I understand spicy, sweet, salty, tart, bitter……but what would Savory taste like?

that's unagi.

I’ve found foods with high fat contents to be more “savory” than others. A satisfying flavor that lingers, without crossing over the line, into “bad after taste”.

Monosodium glutamate activates the savory tastebuds, which is why it gets added to food.

Monosodium glutamate is a sodium ion, as in salt, and glutamic acid, as in found in all meat. While something at the China Buffet might be giving you headaches or gastric distress, it's not the MSG.
