It's a right-wing myth. I looked into it about six months ago, and in fact it is more the other way, especially when it comes to scripts. A lot of US citizens on the border pop over to Canada to fill their scripts because they're cheaper. If you live on the border area of course you're going to see a lot of Canadian number plates in your area. I'm sure the Canadians on the other side of the border are seeing a lot of US number plates but I doubt they're all visiting doctors. Most are probably just visiting the respective country they are in.

No they're not. They have issues, but all big cities in the world do, including places like Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Nashville (insert red state metropolis here). Stop making out inner city issues only happen in big cities in blue states. What a crock. The only city where things look pretty bad is Chicago and even then that is only it a couple of suburbs. And that is a single city. I know lots of NYers and people from San Fran. They love their cities. Don't know anybody from LA, so won't comment. You ask any non-US citizen what part of the US they would love to visit the most, the vast majority say NY. There's nothing wrong with the place. People still flock there. It's not like Detroit where people left in droves.

Fair question. I'm guess I'm asking if you divided the US into two separate states - one being conservative the other liberal - and all things being equal it is divided with the same amount of land, wealth etc - and there was no civil war - it was done all nicely etc, what would your country look like compared to the other.

I think it might happen eventually. Too much water under the bridge over the past two decades. Might even be a civil war over it. But i'm curious what the reality of each state would actually look like once the dust has settled.

My state would have a 100% impenetrable border with our

This is how it works in my world:
My ex wife had to have an operation on her toe about five years ago. She could go private and it would cost her $10,000 and it would be done within a month, or go on the public waiting list for elective surgery, which she dicided to do and it took them 10 months to get around to her. Does she or I feel guilty about it? **** no. Why? Because in the preceding 25 years she has paid the best part of $500,000 tax. As far as I'm concerned all she is doing is getting her tax money back.

Also, I know that some of my tax money goes towards public health. Does it bother me that my money is going there even though I have only had one hospital visit in the past 50 years? No. Because I know there will come a time when it will be my turn and I'll need it. Maybe I'll suddenly drop dead and never need it. However, the chances of a member of my extended or immediate family needing it are quite high.

I am the health insurance company's worst nightmare.

What I wish the government would concentrate on is making those who make shit choices in life that lead to bad health outcomes (smoking, getting obese) pay for their shit. Although, as somebody pointed out, people who smoke or are morbidly obese tend to kick the bucket a lot younger than others.
