What Do You Think About The Trump Tariffs?

This is not a question of politics, this is all about economics and what works best for economic growth in the long run. Newsflash, tariffs are counter-productive in that sense for the simple reason that consumers as a whole can buy less with the same amount of money when tariffs are applied and I do not see how anyone can argue that point. Overall there is no upside; some industries and unions are helped while others are not AND there is ALWAYS the retaliation that hurts somebody else.

Clearly, those who favor tariffs do not give a damn about the loss of spending power by those who can afford it least. To me, that is shameful and I don't care about the politics of it. Used to be for a long time it was the democrats who favored tariffs and now it's Trump. Either way it is a stupid thing to do.

I think that they're a good thing and I don't think that they will rekindle inflation like this article talks about if America gets motivated to start making their own products again? I shop on Amazon all the time and I always avoid all products saying that they're being shipped out of China because they're in such poor quality.

You are on a fixed income - welfare. You will feel the pain.

Politics aren't in question here, because they're not in use. Adding politics like you just did makes it an add that you just used or added.

Tariffs are a question of fairness when chit goes wrong, otherwise it's the leverage we have in order to make thing's right when they go wrong. Undoubtedly you are in favor of just letting thing's go on and on without resolutions or leverages used that we have at our disposal, so it just begs the question for most about what role you have in all of it, because you sure are for nothing changing no matter what kind of sucker's this country is being played for.

First, nice dodge around the consequences of using tariffs. Second, I do not see the negatives associated with the trade imbalance, who exactly is harmed by that?

You don't seem to mind the cost that tariffs bring on the US consumers that can least afford it, how elitist of you. Second, I never said the status quo was fine and for us to do nothing. There are alternatives to using tariffs.

"so it just begs the question for most about what role you have in all of it" Are you effing kidding me, like I have anything to do with it. No need to make this a personal attack, the tariff issue has supporters and detractors that probably have salient points. And politics IS in question here, the democrats used to be for tariffs for decades cuz it was seen as beneficial to the labor unions, who overwhelmingly supported them while the GOP was for free trade. But now it's Trump that wants higher and more tariffs so now it's a bad thing, huh? It's a political move on his part, just like it was when the dems did it.

Frankly I don't give a damn who's for it, it's a stupid idea that hurts the lowest income people the most AND SOLVES NOTHING. That's cuz there's always a blowback, some businesses get helped while others get hurt. And the consumers end up paying for it with higher inflation.

I love tariffs when Trump uses them because he uses them like a hammer!

A threat of tariffs got mexico to stop the caravans of illegals...and to set up the remain in mexico policy.

He used the threat of tariffs to get many other countries to drop their tariffs on US companies.

And he actually imposed tariffs on some to save American jobs & entire industries (like steel).
Yep. Good negotiating tool.

Are you kidding me ? Undoubtedly you haven't a freaking clue as to what has been the result of the status quoe, and the turning of a blind eye when it comes to making gazillionaires out of the top 1% while the lower rungs get fleeced or screwed along with being over run with cheap chit that ends up swelling our landfills out of control...

Meanwhile the swelling landfills are endangering the environments in which they are near or around, otherwise like a cycle of destruction that just gets worse and worse.

Not only that but we are ending up with these shipping containers laying up all over this country because undoubtedly they can't be shipped back to be reused/refilled again. Then we get these people at the lower rungs who instead of disposing of the defected goods in the proper place's, they end up littering the landscapes whether by their own hands or by the trucks that spill the chit all up and down the roads as it blows out of the poorly tarped trucks hauling it. On and on it goes.

Why not have better products available due to consumer protections where products are tested before marketed to the public, and this way the consumer might say "I'll save my money a few weeks more to buy a product that will last 5 year's instead of it lasting one year ?

I think that they're a good thing and I don't think that they will rekindle inflation like this article talks about if America gets motivated to start making their own products again?
Why do you think these things? Have you ever taken an economics course? How 'bout history?

Trump's tariffs never went away, but the Dems kept them and added more. Inflation was caused by supply channels closing or moving and a lack of supply after society reopened.

What, you mean the new millennial economics course that has been critiqued to fit with the changing of the time's, and this being based upon the perspectives of those getting filthy rich on screwing over the vast amount of Americans, otherwise who are made dependent because the rich beneficiaries and government has actually made them that way by design ?

What a freaking ponzi-scheme it all has been.

Create this huge dependent class that needs cheap goods by the truck loads in order to feel like they are a participant in the huge economy that has been designed in this way to make the business class filthy rich at everyone's expense. We as the working class get taxed big time in order to make it all work, then those taxes are redistributed to the bottom rungs who will be the user's of those fund's to buy the cheap goods being peddled by the elite for super profits while government officials use insider trading to enrich themselves big time as a kick back from it all.

I'm responding to the thread based upon the content being added to the thread. I keyed off of your response to write my thought's even though the response wasn't a dig at you or anything, but just an opinion based upon the entire situation that is huge or has so many angles in it. Check out my last edited note at the end of my post, and tell me what you think.
