A "stimulus" check is not intended to be a form of Corona Virus relief. That is whole separate package of measures directed at people with specific needs, e.g., supplements to unemployment checks.

The stimulus checks are intended to be spent within our economy - on AMERICAN-MADE goods and services. Spending the money "foolishly" is perfectly OK. Paying down credit card debt or back rent is not exactly the desired use of the money, but we all do what we must do, and money is, after all, fungible.

While it would have been nice to make the checks "means tested" (I don't need one), the administrative hassles with such an initiative would be significant enough to delay the checks, which would have been counterproductive.

If they want to stimulate the economy, get rid of the federal unemployment extension. There are articles all over the place of businesses that can't get employees because they are making better money on unemployment than working. You can't stimulate anything when the commie states are still virtually shutdown and parents can't work because they need to stay home with their kids who's schools are not open.
