WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE

If it is government healthcare or private healthcare telling you what procedures you can or cannot have. Private healthcare does exactly that and do not cover existing illness and will cancel your coverage at anytime. And make your co-payment so high that you cannot afford to have the procedure done and cannot get the care you need. And when you retire, you look to government run health care, Medicare for your health care. God forbid you live that long. Very few, even the best coverage, have obstacles you have to put up with. HMOs have a list of doctors and hospitals that you can only go to for your care.
Think about it, private healthcare is not all it’s cracked up to be unless you are the rich or congress.

Neither makes my decisions, I pay cash to my PCP and only have high deductible catastrophic health insurance.

You dislike HMO's? If you do then you need to curse Ted Kennedy and if you don't then you can thank him.(Nixon was a weakling and bought into it too)
