Or you can have a private doctor with his own practice. Through insurance or out of pocket.

There is no such thing as free healthcare anywhere. The people who provide it at all levels need money to live on. There has to be infrastructure of some kind. All the medicine, supplies, equipment, diagnostic machines, etc. has to be provided by people who also need money to live on. Somebody has to build the ambulances. Etc. etc. etc.

So taxes must be paid to cover all that. Those in high risk jobs and recreation etc. pay no more than people with low risk jobs and recreation. The person who takes care of himself and avoids a lot of illnesses he likely otherwise would have pays just as much as the people who don't.

You have to have a government you trust very much to feel good about that government making all the decisions about what healthcare it will pay for and what it will not.

Ok, I will be more detailed.

Paid for with OUR tax dollars. More like a healthcare pool. We ALL get to pay into it, and we ALL get to use it when we need it.

I think WE should have the right to specify WHERE our tax dollars go and WHAT exactly they are used for.
Mine would definitely be for healthcare.

Sure, the tax system would have to be restructured, but I think this way, its restructured for OUR use not the governments.

Look to Canada and the UK to see why this is a disaster.

We should have made health insurance like car insurance: you pay for all regular check ups and maintenance, but if big issues arise, you make a claim.

Well, private insurance healthcare and state healthcare both have pros and cons. Not one system is Utopian in results, but the best of the two is state healthcare. State healthcare is not free because it comes out of the tax coffers, but, it's still half the cost of private insurance. If you do need to use the hospital, just pay for parts of your treatment to speed the process up if you want. Even then, that cost is relatively low.

We still have private hospitals if you don't want to use the NHS. Here's a quick search for a hip replacement and cost -

That point is based on exactly how involved I want the government in my decisions ...
And what power I am willing to grant the government, that if nothing else, is not delegated to them already.

When you invite the government into your life ... And grant them power ... By default, you become subject to their policies.
You will never control all the politicians that may eventually make decisions
counterproductive to everything from your freedom to your life.

Surrendering to government ... And making everyone accountable for the poor decisions of others ...
Is how the government increasingly diminishes liberties and handicaps the system to the lowest common denominator.
