Due to climate crisis shifts in precipitation, the conditions are ripe for a catastrophe. The Black Hills moisture level in April and May was 30 to 50 percent below its long-term average, the Rapid City Journal reported. June has been hotter and drier than normal and the long-range forecasts suggest those conditions will continue until July, as The Associated Press reported.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Drought Monitor recently labeled nearly all of southwestern South Dakota, including most of the Black Hills, as "abnormally dry," according to South Dakota News Watch.

The state authority distributed 7,500 tickets to the event through an online lottery. While coronavirus cases are surging throughout the country, there is no social distancing requirement for the July 3 event at Mt. Rushmore. Instead, the Interior Department will post signs throughout the park urging visitors to wear a cloth face covering when it is impossible to keep six feet away from others, and it will provide face coverings for all of its employees, according to The Washington Post

The state authority distributed 7,500 tickets
And each "ticket" is good for admission of six people in each vehicle. So 45,000 people could be there.

I think they're probably on high alert for any sparks. The Dakotas have the least Covid cases in the country. They'll probably be okay.

Gather all you want. But shooting fireworks in a tinder-dry forest is not only stupid, it is seriously irresponsible.

Of course, if the fireworks cause fires, Trump will say it's the Park Service's fault for not vacuuming the site.

Your logic is so stunningly broken my jaw hangs open. All across America, in every city and most towns, for the past several weeks, the "brothers" have been remorselessly setting off industrial grade fireworks, terrorizing innocent Americans and raining firework debris on their yards, homes and personal vehicles. In some cases the "brothers" have even been aiming fireworks at people in the streets. And yet; and yet you bumble fucks can find the audacity, the cyclic stupidity to complain about a government sanctioned display of fireworks to be administered in ONE place and with all official precautions? What the hell is wrong with people like you? Isn't just your logic and ability to reason that's broken . . . your brains are cooked and gone off in the freezer after months of vapor lock. Either you're trolling for outrage and you know it or you have utterly lost your fucking mind.

Rioting fine....

Celebrating 4th of July = White-Supremacy.

Welcome to the democratic vision of America, it is Chaz. It seems though that the OP is mistaken on what July 4th celebration means. It means questioning and laughing at authority and celebrating American freedoms. If you try to prevent it by saying people can't celebrate, twice as many people show up and stay twice as long. No authority tells Americans they can't celebrate on that day unless he wants to become target practice.

Exactly. The real fireworks haven't even begun yet. Attack America on the 4th and that display will be one the radical left never forgets . . . if they're still north of a dirt nap.

And the burning pieces just stay in the sky? Don't be daft.

Talk about "daft"....After a fireworks rocket explodes, the PAPER particles are so small they're not apt to burn at all aka known as indoors fireworks displays. Do you think fireworks shot off in domed stadiums land on terrified fans, incinerating them?
stick_figure_run_hair_fire_8515_zps89091cb9.gif~c200

p.s. I'm pretty sure there will be spotter-drones and firetrucks/crews on the scene to make sure there isn't a fire.

Pretty sure? Even if there is no open flame, just the heat will set much of the forest debris on fire. Often fireworks are postponed or cancelled due to dry conditions. Around Mt Rushmore the woods are tinder dry, as the OP reported.

Yes, having fire crews would help, hopefully. But given the range of falling fireworks debris, and the terrain, it could easily get out of hand and burn major acreage.

Why not celebrate without fireworks?
