I was with a group that played in the WH twice during the Clinton era and both times they ignored what was happening and just chatting away, the second time was so bad we declined a third invitation in favor of a performance at a state event that was at least respectful to the musicians

They listened (seated) politely. Her dad was a big time GOP donor so I guess that helped.

That said it was a different era, everyone was more polite.
