It seems the UK left the European Union just to become the first country in Europe to adopt Sharia law. And it looks like it will manage to do so in a matter of years—whereas with the EU’s sluggish bureaucracy, it might have taken more than a decade.

Officials from the ruling Labour Party have issued a fatwa... oh, sorry, for now it’s just a directive, stating that British secular schools must follow Islamic law when assigning drawing assignments to children, as these could constitute blasphemy or idolatry from the perspective of Sharia.

The guidance on handling religious prohibitions when teaching the national curriculum states that, although Islamic culture has produced a rich tradition of abstract art, “three-dimensional figurative representations of people are considered by some Muslims to be idolatry,” writes The Telegraph. Teachers were advised: “It is very important that the school understands this and is also careful not to ask its students to reproduce images of Jesus, the Prophet Muhammad, or other figures considered prophets in Islam. Some Muslim students may not wish to draw human figures.”

The guidelines, designed to help teachers adapt to religious sensitivities, also warn that music and dance classes may conflict with Islamic teachings. They also note that diversity in the classroom can be a “great source of strength,” but schools “must be flexible regarding religious differences.”

The guidelines were issued by local authorities in northern England, including in Kirklees, the district where Betley School is located. The school became the site of protests in 2021 after a teacher showed an image of the Prophet Muhammad in class. The school employee remains in hiding.
