They are students. Even if the selection process is very severe.

When did you serve in the military? You are never "off duty" in terms of your obligation to the service.

That's true, but Cadets have free time ... However, they are not free to disobey Commands.

That still doesn't mean that Command cannot restrict such clubs from the campus ...
And if they have been directed not to attend such functions at all, by Command ... They cannot even do it in their free time.

Their obligation to the Service is 24/7/365 ...

In the dreaded 60s ----in my college----we had a dining room table
JUST FOR BLACKS ----to be fair----we also had restricted LANGUAGE TABLES---but the only table that ever THREW ME OUT-----was the "black table" I was even accepted at the CHINESE TABLE

I have lived in largely black neighborhoods and experienced being shunned, or the equivalent of being thrown out of the black table.

And before any asshole implies that it was my fault, I was then a liberal democrat.

It's the United States Military Academy ... The Cadets get a Bachelor's of Science at graduation and there are no other options ...
Military Leadership is among the classes they take ...
There is mandatory participation in competitive athletics among other things.

The Superintendent is a Lieutenant General, the Dean is a Brigadier General,
and the Commander of Cadets is a Brigadier General.

It's not your standard school or college ...
Never was and never will be ... No matter how many times you try to argue with it ...

Never been a Cadet at Westpoint ... Have been in the Military and a Veteran now.
I didn't have to go to Westpoint to become a Chief Warrant Officer ...
Know what is required of our Soldiers and our Commanders.

It's never simply about what you want or would like ... Division of any kind is counterproductive to unit cohesion.
Cadets, Enlisted and Officers do have free time ... And unless instructed otherwise they can spend it how they choose.

That absolutely does not require Command to provide them with anything that is counterproductive to
what the Commander chooses for those under their command ...
And any Cadet or Soldier, at any level, needs to understand that from the get-go.

Look at the bright side though ... If you were a CO, or the XO at the moment, and felt they should attend ethnic groups ...
You could simply tell them to ... And there wouldn't be anything the Cadets or Soldiers could say about that.

Militaries have also been training soldiers for a very long time ...
And they really don't need advice from the civilian world on how to effectively accomplish that ...
