Why I ask ??

Those 2 sports are a good indicator of your coordination and athleticism!!

I sucked in baseball !!
I did ok in playing basketball in a Jewish league but the boys were so small and I towered over them .
When I played real boys .i was bad

How about you ??
Did you play HS ??

never liked basketball but I did play baseball and I could pitch, I actually had a pretty good knuckleball that has great float

that was a fun pitch to throw, batters would just watch it go by

kids were like, what was that?

fun fact though, you don't throw it as much as you push it :)

this was little league and HS, never thought about making it a career, so much competition

pitching still amazes me, what and artform

when you see a guy like Skenes and other top guys throw 100 with so much movement
follow that up with a off the table breaking ball timed just right
slider that breaks down and awhile right at the same time
the science, form and function are really something to admire

I sucked at all "team" sports; however, I was good at individual sport achievements (rifle, pistol, water skiing, rock climbing, etc.).

I stopped getting taller at 5'7. In 7th grade I made the basketball team but not in 8th. Then I made the team in 9th grade. So I think the coach in 8th grade knew I wasn't going to be tall. I was a hustler, good passer and blocked out. Rebounded like Dennis Rodman. He wasn't the tallest but wanted it the most. I quit freshman year because I got no playing time. My problem was I made shots in practice but not in the game. It's a different pace/shot/speed in the real game. In practice it's easy. No one swatting the ball back into your face. LOL.

I made the JV baseball team my freshman year. Not a lot of guys do. I quit playing all team sports after my brother pitched a 1 hitter away from a perfect game and I went 4 for 5 and then they benched us after that. What more could I do to prove myself? So we quit all team sports where the coach gets to pick his favorites and doesn't go based on results. Why go to the sophomore in a slump when this freshman is on fire?

I didn't try out for the basketball team in HS. That was my least favorite team sport.

Football was my favorite sport.

I was a starting DB on the varsity football team when I was only a sophomore for the last 3 games of the season after a couple of guys got injured. The coaches discovered that I was really good at reading plays. Then my junior year they made me the defensive captain of the varsity football team.

In elementary school, JH and my freshman year of high school I always played center on offense and in the middle of the line on defense too. Down in the belly of the beast where the real battle happens. Where dirty play is encouraged and expected. That's where I wanted to be. That's why I was there. But the coaches thought I was more valuable as a DB.

I was also on the archery and gymnastics teams (rings), but even though those are teams, those are not team sports. There's no teamwork involved.

I got kicked off of the baseball team after one of my friends got into the coach's unlocked car and stole his weed out of his unlocked glovebox. I didn't steal it, I just helped smoke it. I was innocent dammit!

How big were you in HS ??

My HS was 1/3 Jewish and not a single Jew played football. We are slow with weak bodies

I wasn't that big. I was kind of a late bloomer and didn't really get "big" until after high school. But I was strong, quick, smart and hit hard enough to put players out of the game on several occasions.

My family is strong. Many families in the neighborhood would lounge around their living room watching TV in the evenings or mornings before work/school. Our family would watch Fonzi and Good Morning America too, but we watched TV down in our gym in the basement while we were pumping iron and doing martial arts training.

Utterly remarkable

Any injuries

My mother was a Goju Ryu instructor and my father trained the police how to fight. Mixed martial arts. He also built the local SWAT team from scratch. He was a legit badass.

Quite frankIy, I really wouldn't have known a Jew if I saw one at school. I never really thought about people's heritage or religion. I've never seen the world through bigoted eyes. I know there was at least two Jews because I dated one of them and her brother was in my metal shop class.

So there could have been 2 or there could have been 200. I wouldn't know.

I was very good at baseball but quit when I was 15 to focus on being a pro golfer. I led the league in batting one year and a few home runs that year too. Should have stuck with baseball, the golf thing didn't work out. My HS basketball team was all Black due to bussing D.C. kids out to the suburbs during the 70s. The starting 5 were all well over 6 feet and could dunk. White boys need not apply. I played city league basketball for many years and at my best in my late 20s I played on a couple of A league teams. I'm 6 1 and was a streaky shooter. I could score 25 one game and 4 the next.

I played varsity basketball, starting guard. Nothing special overall, Probably averaged 8-10 ppg and would get my share of assists and rebounds.. had a few 20+ point games. Prided myself on defense.

I played one year of baseball in 5th grade... teammates were so annoyed with me because I would hit bombs in practice but choked like a dog in the games.

The Darwinian nature of competitive sports did me in in both basketball and baseball. At 15, I was top ten percent. At 17 I got cut.

The biggest sports disappointment of my adult years came when I realized that the great hand-eye coordination that made me "good" at baseball, basketball, and tennis, DID NOT give me a leg up when I took up golf at age 50. It is on a completely different level.

I was ok at basketball as a kid. Never really cared for the game, though.
I was very good at baseball. I played that until I started working at 14. I was cleanup hitter, pitcher and 1st baseman. Made all stars every year.
I wanted money more. Probably the jew in me.
