A leader with backbone would know when to let blood be shed that has nothing to do with Americans
Russia could roll all the way up to Poland and it wouldn't matter, they made it halfway through Germany and couldn't compete with us. Being so worried about containing such a dilapidated Russian empire is beneath us and absurd. These arguments made sense before we knew how pitifully weak the Soviet Union was relative to us, just like our involvement in the ME is a joke without a possible regional hegemon rising.
There is only one peer on the horizon and that's China. You think Putin sleeps well knowing there are a billion Chinese just across the border while he has some of the emptiest territory on the planet? He thinks and plots against them much more than he does against us.
