Slight correction - Kulaks in USSR was not a name for Ukrainians it was name for relatively wealthy land and bussiness owners. Communist would show up, take everything away and redistribute it, usually in some self-serving and corrupt way.
One of my great grandfathers was visited like that a few times, each time everything was taken away and eventually sent to the front line with a “death squad” as punishment. He was one of very few to return.
