Several times I’ve explained how we got into this current mess of the absolute hatred between the parties. But to recap. When Clinton was impeached it began. It quickly escalated to no longer being enough to win at the ballot box. Now it was necessary to destroy your opponent. The other side became the enemy.

Actually it was the judiciary committee that approved three articles of impeachment. That body was controlled by Democrats and as a matter of fact all 21 Democrats on the committee voted for the articles and only 7 of 17 Republicans joined them.

It was Republicans who met with Nixon and advised he should resign or most likely would be impeached.

So, Democrats all in on impeachment and got as far as voting in committee to do just that. Some, less than half of the Republicans joined them. When it was clear Nixon was going to be impeached Republicans advised Nixon to resign, most likely in order to save their own political lives.
