Wasn't The Point of Tariffs to Make Companies Open Factories Here?

Well, since you want to talk about tariffs,

What is your current (I know it changes on what your blob says and you’re too dickless to stand up for yourself...) reason for the tariffs?
Well, two things.

We are talking tariffs because...........the thread is about tariffs, I kid you not. Go and read the thread heading.

Secondly, as I've mentioned before in numerous threads, tariffs used to well many decades ago, they don't have the same weight these days. By all means search that under my username. You will also find that I've posted that Trump just seems to flapping the tariff card at everything as a negotiation tool. Tariffs have a place but can be overused. In your search, you will also find I've said why can't Trump go to countries, sit down, and discuss trade agreements, why straight to tariffs.

But our conversation has shown your agenda is just hate Trump, tariffs bad under Trump, forget about them under Biden. It has shown my balanced view.

If tariffs have harmed you under any president, then tell everyone how much based on the products you bought.

Trump is using the tariff card because he feels that's his main arsenal, sanctions as a back up plan. Even I can see that from the UK, why can't you?

For a balanced view from you -

Were tariffs under Biden bad?

Your surrender is accepted.

You’ll be back defending the stuff you “don’t care” about tomorrow (if not sooner). You have no choice. It’s fascinating...
I'm willing to suffer a little to make America better off. I mean damn we've suffered through the worst inflation in 40 years. Thanks for Trump bringing that down. Oh and if you buy American you won't pay tafiffs.

He’s done a horrible job

Orange Man Bad

Very Bad

Bad Orange Man

I can’t even remember Trumps first term tariffs but it was NOTHING like this

In other words, you can't counter anything that's posted so you stick your fingers in your ears and go "LALALALALALAL I can't hear you"

Yes it was. But I don't expect Cult members to remember of of Trump's first administration fuck ups, since they refused to acknowledge them at the time. This is an EXACT repeat of what Trump did last time, but the reaction is quite different this time.

Last time, both Canada and Mexico had been BEGGING to renegotiate NAFTA for more than a decade. But this time, all of the nations who signed deals last time, are telling Trump to honor the deals he made when he was last in office.

Trump, who bragged he could make 90 deals in 90 days, hasn't produced a single deal, just an agreement in principle with the Brits, but nothing either of them would sign. Trump is now going to decide himself how much nations will pay.

No he won't. He can go fuck himself because the rest of the world isn't having it.

So here's a refresher for you Frank:

Trump tore up all of your international trade deals and slapped tariffs on everyone, in 2017.

Tariffs were not 145% under Biden.

Thanks for confirming you can’t come up with a reason for them either.

How does paying $1,260 on an Indian made $1,000 I-phone make America “better off”? You’re paying more in taxes to the government.

You support higher taxes?

I quoted a bunch of trump dick suckers like yourself saying th point was to bring jobs back.

Then he takes the tariffs away before a single job is re-shored.

I’m enjoying you guys flail around trying to come up with a new rationale.
Nah, you’re just trolling as usual….

You seem stumped jknowgood . Can’t say I’m surprised. You hated taxes until you were told to love them.

Stupid slapper -

Yeah…I asked YOU what the goal was.

Trump is using the "tariff card" because he's too lazy to craft a detailed trade plan. Trump can't even articulate what end goal he's trying to achieve. If he's trying to force exporters to build production facilities in the USA:
  • That takes years. Tariffs aren't a quick fix, and in the meantime the American people pay.
  • Building production facilities and training employees take planning and investment. With no trade deals in place, nobody can plan, and no idea of the required investments
  • If the trade deals made can be torn up on the President's whim, nobody can plan.
  • Without knowing who or what the next President might do, nobody can plan.
  • If increasing production in the USA, why were foods the USA doesn't grow, taxed with tariffs?
  • Trump's last trade war increased the US trade deficit by 40% and cost the USA 200,000 manufacturing jobs, and 3 years of record setting farm bankruptcies.
  • 2/3 of the tariffs collected in Trump's last trade war, were paid out as subsidies to farmers who lost markets and sales due to China cancelling all orders for rice and/or soy beans
  • China used Trump's last trade war to expand it's markets to Central and South America, leading to alliances and investment by the Chinese in those nations and continue to do business with those nations
  • American farmers have yet to recover from the last Trump trade war, and now he's started another one, and pork farmers have lost all of their Chinese sales.
Other nations seem perfectly capable of exploiting America's weak points and putting tariffs on those producers. Trump just lashes about. The idea of subtlety or a plan is foreign to him.

Ok. Same reason as Biden?

You seem stumped jknowgood . Can’t say I’m surprised. You hated taxes until you were told to love them.
We are already benefitting from the tariffs, North Carolina furniture makers are having to expand. Jobs are coming, like I said I lived through bidenflation, so this shouldn't be bad. The tariffs will make me buy made in America, why is that a bad thing? I mean we get better products and Americans go back to work. You cannot stump me, liberalism is based off a lie.

Ok. Same reason as Biden?

Biden used precision tariffs on specific products, not a general tariff on everything the USA imports, including food you don't grow, and supplies and ingredients you have no means for producing.

Trump is too lazy to do targetted tariffs, or to make an entire policy or a plan.

And if you want to buy something other than furniture?
The tariffs will make me buy made in America, why is that a bad thing?
Well you won’t have a choice. And as we have seen with every product category, American companies have jacked up their prices to take advantage of tariffs. Hence the 40K stock market.
I mean we get better products and Americans go back to work. You cannot stump me, liberalism is based off a lie.

Yeah, that hasn’t happened inn9 years of tariffs.

We were told that tariffs would return jobs to the US:

Since Trump blinked and removed the tariffs for 90 days, why would any company who was considering opening plants and factories here to avoid the tariff, now do so?

If the rest of the world removed tariffs and we did so as well, how would that coerce a company to return jobs to the US where they pay more for production than they would overseas? It wouldn't.

So again, what is the point of tariffs?
/----/ Tariffs are a negotiating tactic. No country believes Trump won't reinstate them if they don't negotiate in good faith.

Plenty of American made products. But I guess ignorant people don't know that.
